Japan Digital Road Map Association (JDRMA)
Since 1988 Japan Digital Road Map Association (JDRMA) has been compiling, updating and providing a digital road network database based on public-private collaboration. As of 2016, DRM-DB is covering approx. 950,000 km roads with 3 m width or above as a digital infrastructure supporting Japanese ITS. It consists of digital road networks and attributes, so that various ITS systems can recognize roads and intersections. And it has been basis information for car navigation systems. In the near future, car navigation systems will actualize higher level of drive assistance to enhance human safety and sustainable society. In such navigation systems, for example, more detailed road maps including lane networks, lane markings, curvatures and gradients must be required. To meet such requirements, JDRMA has generated a pilot database of detailed road maps and proposed a standard of geographic data files for the database.
