AIR is excited to partner with you!

Our mission. The American Institutes for Research® (AIR) is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization that conducts behavioral and social science research and delivers technical assistance to solve some of the most urgent challenges in the U.S. and around the world. Our mission is to generate and use rigorous evidence that contributes to a better, more equitable world.

Our work. AIR employs a deep bench of multisectoral researchers, practitioners, and policy experts. AIR works with government agencies, educational institutions, NGOs and communities to develop and use evidence to improve outcomes.  Our team uses a multidisciplinary, strengths-based, co-designed and capacity-building approach in our partnerships.  For example, AIR partnered with the U.S. Department of Defense to implement an enterprise-wide curriculum to move the military from focusing primarily on response to preventing interpersonal violence such as sexual assault, domestic abuse, and child abuse.  In addition to serving our mission through client-driven work, we invest our own resources in the AIR Equity Initiative to address complex social issues in the U.S. and across the globe.

AIR is also a leader in equitable community engagement. For example, in 2016, AIR made a commitment to address the opioid overdose crisis by forming the Center for Addiction Research and Effective Solutions (CARES). CARES includes expert practitioners and researchers and helped establish the People with Lived drug Experience as Researchers (PLER) Board to be a research partner.  In addition, with funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, AIR explored how shared measurement helps systems and communities systematically define collective goals, monitor progress, generate buy-in, and create accountability within organizations and communities.

Public health.  It is central to our mission and work to promote and protect the health of all people and their communities and to give everyone a safe place to live, learn, work and play.  Example topics we work on include vaccine hesitancy and misinformation; mental health and substance use services; violence prevention; primary and secondary prevention of chronic and infectious diseases (e.g., HIV, cancer); teen pregnancy; health equity; social determinants of health and climate change.  We also work on communications, as well as health care payment, delivery, data and health IT that supports public health goals.  AIR uses traditional and innovative mixed methods, data science and machine learning for public health research and surveillance, such as using federal data sets, administrative, clinical, survey and qualitative data to track and understand trends in COVID and other diseases.

Together AIR experts can support, implement, and evaluate the growing body of evidence that contributes to safe, supportive, and nurturing relationships and environments. We look forward to working together.
