The UF Center for Arts in Medicine is a leader in Arts in Health education, research, & practice. We understand the value of the arts and culture for advancing health, well-being and equity among individuals and in communities. Through our Arts in Public Health work, we aim to expand cross-sector collaboration at the intersections of art & culture, public health, and community development and stimulate upstream interventions that reduce barriers to health and well-being.

  Healing Arts: New Guide Shows How Creativity Can Transform Community Health

  Art classes as part of your medical treatment? It’s possible through new “arts on prescription” programs. A new guide, “Arts on Prescription: A Field Guide for US Communities,” provides concrete steps for developing these programs, which allow healthcare and social service providers to “prescribe” creative activities. Early models indicate that arts prescriptions can reduce isolation and depression while increasing quality of life. Offering real-world examples and practical advice, this guide lights the way toward more holistic community care models that leverage the vitality of arts and culture. 

  The UF Center for Arts in Medicine, in partnership with Dr. Tasha Golden and colleagues at Mass Cultural Council, has released a groundbreaking new resource: Arts on Prescription: A Field Guide for US Communities. This guide provides a roadmap for formally integrating arts, culture, and nature into healthcare and social care—so that providers and community-based arts organizations can create Arts on Prescription programs in their communities!
