APWA Alberta Chapter has gladly announced STAR's Tech`s ECO-ST: Starfish De-icer as the Technical Innovation Award Winner of this year. It is our honor to contribute our technology to Public Works in Alberta!
Not only in South Korea, STAR's TECH's innovative technology to fully upcycle invasive species of starfish have been awarded in recognition for its eco-friendliness and astounding melting performance in Canada. In accordance with this, we are expanding field tests with local municipalities/road maintenance companies in Alberta in the last winter season.
STAR'S TECH de-icer utilizes the porous bone structure of the starfish to adsorb chloride ions from the ground. These chloride ions are deposited by and found in many conventional ice melts, causing corrosion on roads and pavements, and damaging soil and vegetation. ECO-ST de-icer prevents this harmful build-up, leading to fewer expenses wasted on infrastructure damage and less damage to roadways.
The de-icing industry has become more aware of the environmental impact of de-icers over the past few years. One of the key issues has traditionally been the harmful effects on both wildlife and physical structures in high concentrations. The scale of this issue has led to more research into green alternatives with varying degrees of success, encouraging eco-friendly options wherever possible.
ECO-ST knows how important it is to use environmentally friendly products and has begun offering much more eco-friendly alternatives in the de-icing industry. STAR'S TECH ECO-ST de-icer can minimize the damage caused by regular de-icers. Many de-icers, particularly some of the very cheap alternatives, contain higher amounts of salt which have an incredibly harmful effect on the environment.
The ECO-ST de-icer solves corrosion issues due to its incredible storage and release mechanism. The starfish extracts adsorb chloride ions to protect the concrete(driveway) and releases a corrosion inhibitor to minimize the metal corrosion. This makes it a much more effective de-icer that protects against corrosion 29 times more than typical de-icers. Corrosion inhibitors can sometimes cause issues like toxicity in the environment, that's why ECO-ST only uses 1/3 of the corrosion inhibitors their competition uses.
ECO-ST always works with the wellbeing of our planet, wildlife and surroundings in mind. Their use of biowaste technology ensures a sustainable solution that has many more social and economic benefits than typical de-icers. Their de-icer provides a solution to corrosion that doesn't affect the environment and is safer for pets and plants alike.
STAR'S TECH ECO-ST use starfish extract that minimizes damages to the ground, trees, vegetation and wildlife. Salt has been used for decades during winter months but ECO-ST believes it is now time to combine it with starfish extract as an environmentally friendly alternative that has the same effect without the costs.
