The Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) was established by ICMA and the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) in 1996. We are a not-for-profit organization that offers programs, services, and educational opportunities that lead the fire and emergency service to excellence. Our fire department accreditation program is a quality improvemen model based on risk analysis that promotes the establishment of community-adopted performance targets. Our fire officer credentialing program is a career enhancement and development model that recognizes professional accomplishments.
