Our Story

MBJ Solutions was born from the believe that electroluminescence will be of great importance for solar module production. Together with our LED sun simulators and our mobile equipment for on-site measurements, we cover the most important testing stations in the life of a PV module. From creation until recycling. By working closely with our customers, we continuously improve our products and drive innovation.

We are ISO 9001:2015 certified and always strive for continuous improvement. We pass on our lean and optimized processes to our partners and customers as a price advantage.

  • Mobile Lab 5.0: precise PV module measurement for all module sizes and typs

The new MBJ Mobile Lab 5.0 combines an A+A+A+ LED solar simulator with a high resolution electroluminescence test system. Standard-compliant and precise testing of solar modules directly on site is now even easier.

    • Power measurement
    • Electroluminescence
    • Diode test
    • Optional HiPot and grounding test

Power measurement: With the 22 LED types of the advanced spectrum, strengthening the UV and IR range, precise measurement of various module types, including thin film, PERC and HJT modules are possible. The A+A+A+ LED sun simulator of the latest generation uses a light source tested and qualified by TÜV Rheinland according to IEC 60904-9 Ed.3.

Electroluminescence: In addition, the MobileLab 5.0 includes a high-resolution electroluminescence inspection system with up to 30 MPixel resolution. Hidden defects, such as micro-cracks or inactive areas, can be quickly and reliably detected directly on site.

Further tests: A pre-measurement electrical connection test and bypass diode test is also included. Optionally, a hipotential and grounding test can also be integrated.

The overall more compact and less complex system offers many possibilities for the integration into your desired means of transport. Integrated in a small van or a container, the system is flexible to use and easy to move from one location to another. The highly accurate measurement results are automatically stored in the proven MBJ evaluation software with database on a notebook. The evaluation of the measurements and the EL image can thus be performed directly on site or later in the office. After the module measurements, a comprehensive test report with statistical evaluation can be exported in PDF format.

 Press Releases

  • Even after 12 million flashes, the long-term stability of the MBJ LED light source still looks perfect.

One of the main advantages of MBJ LED light sources for sun simulators is their excellent long-term stability compared to xenon flash tubes.

To prove the life expectancy and long-term effect on the spectral match of LEDs, an MBJ Sun Simulator LED light source is currently undergoing an accelerated lifetime test. So far, the counter shows 12 million flashes with a cycle time of 2.7 s, a flash duration of 195 ms, and no change in LED settings.

The figure shows the results after 12 million flashes, which corresponds to about 8 years of operation in a module production when testing 3 modules in a minute: the spectral match in all wavelengths bands is very stable and still very well within the class A+ conditions of 0.875 (blue line) to 1.125 (red line) required by the IEC 60904-9 Ed.3 standard.

During this time, it is not necessary to change the LED light source once! This means a real big saving in maintenance costs and in downtime that a lamp exchange entail.

    Comparison

In comparison, the life of xenon lamps is much shorter. It is recommended that xenon lamps in a sun simulator be replaced after 100,000 flashes. Even assuming that in production lamp replacement occurs only after 300,000 flashes, the lifetime is equivalent to only ~69 days. (If the spectral match is still within the standards limits at all). This means that over a period of 10 years, about 240 xenon flash tubes are needed, assuming 4 flash tubes per sun simulator in a typical sun simulator for the larger area solar modules.

Due to the significantly longer lifetime, less maintenance costs for the hardware and less downtime for maintenance, the investment of an MBJ LED Sun Simulator will pay for itself in only a few years.
