Laser Induced Deep Etching Technology for Display Glass

Laser Induced Deep Etching (LIDE) is a new technology for the processing of display glass. LIDE can work with any glass material and cut the glass to shape while also defining the edge structure, all in the same process step and without generating any defects. Cover glass with 2D, 2.5D and 3.5D edge geometries can be obtained in one process step and without the need for thermoforming while eliminating or at least significantly reducing the number of polishing steps and increasing the break strength of the glass by more than 30% in relation to the current state-of-art, and essentially eliminating yield losses. LIDE is an automated process with no consumables and very high throughput, resulting in lowered operational costs.
