  • Home Care Answers has seen the need for data to help drive and inform decisions that home health agencies need to make.  "We strive to provide needed data and reporting in an easy to digest format,"  CEO Wayne Ferrin said, "we have all the information that agencies need, so we want to provide it back in a quick and easy fashion."  

    Home Care Answers built, tested, and released an internally built PDGM Calculator in July of 2019.  HCA has been on the forefront of PDGM acceptance, technology, and adoption.  

    "We realized very early in PDGM that we could be a huge benefit and differentiate ourselves from the marketplace because of our platform, the amount of data we have, and the ability to provide that data in a meaningful way,"Vice President of Sales and Marketing Keith Grunig said.  While a relative newcomer to the home health space, Grunig brought his knowledge of data analytics and their importance to Home Care Answers.  

    "I have always said data drives decisions, but great data drives great decisions." Grunig said.  With PDGM and the change in payment models, Home Care Answers saw an opportunity to use the data they were already collecting through OASIS review and coding and give it back to their client partners.  HCA built an implemented an administrative dashboard in the fall of 2019.  This shows the financial gain from pre/post audit corrections, additional revenue, profit, and ROI over the last rolling 12 months.  The dashboard also shows top OASIS suggested changes in key areas, PDGM questions, 5 Star Questions, GG Questions, and top OASIS questions.  

    Leaders can see very quickly key metrics on organizational opportunities.  Futher reporting is available to look deeper into each of those areas at the click of a button.  The same reports are available to look at a more granular level- even down to the clinician level.  This allows agencies to see training and development opportunities, and then track training effectiveness over time through customized date ranges.  

    Further reporting will continue to help.  Agencies can see the breakout of key indicators such as the ratio of institutional vs community referral, average value of each diagnosis group, numerical break down of the census make up, and much more.  

    This has helped many agencies identify areas of concern quickly.  "Many agencies don't see the analytics until too late in the process, which doesn't help them react or correct very quickly." Grunig said.  "If there are 10 steps in a process and an error is made on step 3, but not uncovered until step 10, then it makes it difficult on agencies.  We help uncover the errors in OASIS, coding, revenue, and other areas quickly so that agencies can act vs. react."
