Pulmonary Alveolar Proteinosis (PAP) is a rare life-threatening lung disorder where naturally occurring surfactant abnormally builds up in the tiny air sacs (alveoli) of the lungs. This build-up blocks air from entering alveoli and prevents oxygen from passing through into the blood, resulting in symptoms ranging from mild to severe and life-threatening. The PAP Foundation is a non-profit patient advocacy organization dedicated to finding a cure and to improving the lives of those affected by PAP. Through advocacy and collaboration, we promote research on PAP and provide information and support for PAP patients, healthcare professionals, and the public. We are pleased to be a resource of information about PAP.
