CANOE – Pre-Health Academy ’24
The CANOE – Pre-Health Academy is a four-week statewide intensive program designed to provide skills and resources to help students excel in academia and later graduate from a health professions program. Rising rising high school seniors, graduating high school seniors, and college students in Hawaii interested in health careers coming from an economically disadvantaged background, first generation college student, or underrepresented minority group are encouraged to apply.

Ada Toyama Scholarship 2024
Ada was beloved by thousands of HOSA students. In her loving memory, we are continuing a health professions scholarship for HOSA students pursuing a career in healthcare. Hawaii Pacific Basin AHEC will provide up to $500 to 3-5 students every year.
Qualifications:
- Applicants must be accepted into or enrolled in a healthcare certificate or degree-granting program.
- Participated in at least two years of HOSA activities and maintained an active membership.
- Maintained a GPA of 3.0 or above for the last school year.
- Submit a personal statement (300 words minimum).
- One Letter of Recommendation from a Local HOSA Representative
- Factors in the selection process will include but not limited to: Participation in HOSA Leadership at the local, state, and international level, involvement in HOSA’s national service project, and other student leadership affairs.

Apply to become a Telehealth Provider with Hawaii UTelehealth

The Hawaii Pacific Basin AHEC is looking for new providers for its Hawaii UTelehealth project, which provides free tele-psychiatric services for Hawaii’s underserved populations. Providers shall provide telehealth services to patients in Hawaii to the level of service of their provider license. If you would like to become a provider for Hawaii UTelehealth, please review the Entire Request For Proposal PDF and send appropriate documents to Claudine Chan-Naruse at ccnaruse@hawaii.edu by February 22, 2023.
Pacific Experience 2023
The Pacific Basin Experience allows second year medical students to live in one of the four US Affiliated Pacific Island communities or on neighboring islands of Hawai’i for 4 weeks to gain cultural awareness and understanding as part of an inter-professional team, as well as shadow medical providers and learn the many challenges and rewards of rural health care.
Locations include: American Samoa, Guam, Hilo, Kauai, Maui, Palau, and Pohnpei. AHEC is actively assisting medical students, residents, and their respective departments with rural rotations. Opportunities and financial assistance are available on a first come, first served basis and is limited. Travel expenses, housing, and shared car rental are reimbursed.
Searching for Undergraduate Volunteers for 2023 Teen Health Camp
AHEC’s Teen Health Camp is back and live at the John A. Burns School of Medicine! Attendance is free and open to all high school students on Oahu.
We are in need of undergraduate volunteers to assist in the logistics of the event. We are expecting over 150 attendees at this year’s THC, and need your help to deliver the best experience possible. If you had attended Teen Health Camp in the past, this is a great opportunity to pass along the great experience to the next generation.
Teen Health Camp JABSOM 2023 will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023, from 7:00am till 3:30pm. Shifts are available. If you would like to volunteer for this event, please sign up using the Google Form linked below.
