This masterclass will provide the attendee with information on how to use the National Electrical Code (NEC) for data center design. We will begin by discussing how the NEC was established and organized. Next, we will present the various sections of the code with an emphasis on the articles most important to the low voltage system designer. Then we will progress into data center topics. Code related data center articles to be addressed include: clearances, grounding, cable trays, battery systems, IT equipment, modular data centers, communication circuits and fiber optic cabling. NFPA 75 and 72 will be described next, including the aspects important to the designer. The last topic covered will be the newer NEC sections and anticipated future trends. 2023 Code updates will be discussed also.
