  • During the last years many hotels were interested in using Bluetooth (BLE) for their guests to open hotel locks with their smartphone. As a Dutch manufacturer of hotel locks Hotek Hospitality Group has followed this trend, but decided to do mobile opening in a different way. They believe that this mobile experience for customers should be easier and more secure.

    They decided to create a solution that NOT has the disadvantages BLE comes with, such as:

    • security risks
    • high operational costs
    • the inability for PMS suppliers to interface quickly

    That is why Hotek has introduced the next generation cloud based mobile key. By placing a Cloud Low Energy (CLE©) controller into an RFID lock a unique add-on is created that establishes an online cloud connection, with which locks can be opened via a smartphone and access rights can be managed from anywhere in the world. Mobile opening and real-time online access management in one!

    The system can be installed and used directly, integration with a PMS system is possible, but not necessary. In addition, the open API allows the software to be easily integrated with a hotel app, with which functions such as up-selling and mobile check-in can be combined.

    The CLE© system only needs a stable internet connection. The chip connects to the cloud via a IoT* gateway (*Internet of Things). This creates the online management system. Access logs can be viewed real-time online from anywhere in the world and rights can be adjusted directly; someone can therefore be granted or denied access immediately (staff). There is no need to re-code a keycard or send a new BLE code when changing rooms or extend the stay of guests. In case of security updates or updated protocols, locks can be updated 'over the air'. All this is impossible with any Bluetooth system.

    The example of fast security updates has already been mentioned above. Big disadvantage of BLE is that the signal can easily be hacked. Using CLE© there is no pairing between the mobile and the lock, so no signal can be hacked. Communication takes place by high security end-to-end encryption via the cloud. In the event of a power failure or failure of the WiFi network, the system continues to function offline via RFID keycards.
     

    Mobile technology will change rapidly. Therefore new security features are already being developed at the moment, and will be launched in the course of 2018.The CLE© chip will always be futureproof. ‘The Internet of Things’ will become bigger and bigger in the future in both business and private life.

    The system was launched in Europe at Horecava Amsterdam and Internorga Hamburg and will be presented to the USA at HITEC Houston.

For a long time Hotek followed this trend, but has come to the conclusion that this mobile experience for hoteliers and guests could be easier and safer. Hotek developed a technique with higher security, which is easy to use, install and integrate.

    Mobile opening and online access control
    Placing a Cloud Low Energy (CLE ©) controller in an RFID lock creates a unique add-on that establishes an online cloud connection, with which locks can be opened via a smartphone and access rights can be managed from anywhere in the world.     Integration with hotel app and PMS

    Only an internet connection is required

Room changes or upgrades can be done online.
    In case of security updates or updated protocols, locks can be updated 'over the air'. With BLE locks you have to physically approach the locks one by one, which takes a lot of time.

    Safety

    Low energy
    The CLE © system has an ultra low power consumption, batteries need to be replaced less often. In addition, the battery status can be viewed online via the software.

    Another advantage: techniques such as Bluetooth change rapidly or are replaced by new technologies.
    CLE© only needs a stable internet connection. Internet and smartphones will always be there, so locks equipped with CLE© are future-proof - The Internet of Things is the future!
