Our mission “to help people feel better and live well through plant-powered, modern remedies” arises from our personal experiences as founders. Siwat, Recoup’s Co-founder, had a harrowing childhood, and ginger played a big part in his recovery. He spent the first three years of his life in the hospital and went through ten major surgeries, including open heart surgery before he was twelve years old. His mother, who grew up in Thailand, would make him ginger-based home remedies to help with his digestion and recovery. Over the years, his health improved, but the experience shaped him into a passionate health advocate who wanted to have a positive impact on the world.. After college, Siwat earned a Masters's in Physiology from Columbia University. He was working at the same hospital where he grew up and he wanted patients to be able to have the same benefits of his mom’s home remedies. He combed through medical research on ginger and discovered its many clinical benefits. It was from there that he started making Recoup in his tiny studio kitchen and eventually got it commercially produced. Our Co-Founder, Susan, met Siwat through a mutual friend and fellow Cornell MBA alum. As a former college decathlete who struggled with inflammation-based injuries, Susan knew the amazing benefits of ginger for active individuals. Susan had been frustrated with the lack of clean-label options in the hydration space and wanted something she could feel good about drinking after yoga or a surf session. She joined as Co-Founder and together they created a product that could have a powerful positive impact. That desire to help people feel better is at the core of our brand. This is why Recoup uses non-GMO, sustainably sourced ingredients, including ultra-hydrating organic tree water and a clinically proven dose of organic ginger to support workout recovery and daily wellness.
