Leafgro®
By composting leaves and grass clippings that would have normally been disposed of in a landfill, the organic yard trim from residents lawn and gardens is converted into a valuable resource - Leafgro®. The composting process begins in the fall when leaves are collected from Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties and transferred to yard trim composting facilities where they are placed in windrows. In order to accelerate the decomposition process, the rows are turned and shredded on a regular basis. Beginning in the spring, grass clippings are added and the turning and shredding continues. After the composting process is complete, it is dried, screened and sold under the registered trade name – Leafgro®.
Bagged Leafgro®
Bagged Leafgro® is sold at the Montgomery County Yard Trim Compost Faciity (MCYTCF) in Dickerson, MD.
Leafgro® bags are specially made with Braskem resin using the I’m green™ Polyethylene, which is a plastic produced from sugarcane, a renewable material. Traditional polyethylene uses fossil sourced raw material, which include oil and natural gas. Replacing fossil fuels with a renewable feedstock significantly contributes to reducing the overall greenhouse gas emissions of the plastic value chain. The last several years we have taken the extra step to make sure we are being environmentally conscious of our selection of Leafgro® bags.
