Welcome to R.P. Tuthill & Associates.  Founded in 1982 by Phin Tuthill, our goal is to provide landscape, retail and rewholesale companies quality plants that can be offered with pride.  In 2020 I was joined by Andrew Romans & Scott Tarris and we now cover Ohio through New England.

Every year we visit each grower and walk the fields.  We also talk to the growers about what you want and don't want.  Collectively we strive to have the plants you want in the sizes you need.

    • DECIDUOUS SHADE TREE; dark glossy green foliage turns reddish-bronze in fall and is usually retained for most of if not all winter; smooth medium gray bark; large broadly pyramidal tree to about 60' tall by 45' wide at maturity; branching starts at or very near the ground; surface rooted; not tolerant of urban conditions or compacted soils; locate in sun or shade with well-drained organic soils; European native; Zones (4) 5 - 7
  • Malus 'Prairifire' - 2"c

    • DECIDUOUS ORNAMENTAL TREE; pinkish-red buds open to lightly fragrant exceedingly showy deep pinkish-red flowers; persistent 3/8" purplish-red fruit through fall; new bronze-red foliage matures to bronze-green by summer before turning to shades of orange & red in fall; rounded heads to about 20' tall & wide; excellent disease resistance; tolerant of urban conditions if not allowed to dry out; locate in full or mostly sunny areas & moisture retentive well-drained acidic soil  (Dayton)  Zones 4 - 8
