RediRoot Introduces Propagation Trays Designed to Bring Healthy Roots to an Automated Future
Damascus, OR, December 29, 2020: “We are thrilled to introduce the next stage in our root development product line. Our RediRoot Classic Aeration Propagation Systems were the first products we developed back in 2007 and this design update feels like a tribute to both where we began as a company and where we’re heading now. Every year we see more and more automation systems at green industry shows and we believe that is where the industry is going to continue to grow. Plus, our clients have asked us to make them these trays” says Tom Springer, the Director of Product Development and Founder of NurserySource LLC. RediRoot showed a preview of the new RediRoot Essential 10x20 Propagation Trays to attendees at the Cultivate Virtual show back in July 2020. Now that the trays are available for purchase, the RediRoot team is looking forward to showing them off at the MANTS 2021 virtual show.
RediRoot Essential 10x20 Propagation Trays feature a signature slotted design noticeable on all of RediRoot’s nursery containers. This slotted design may raise some eyebrows, but it serves a very important function for root development. Open slots in the sides of a container allow for air to penetrate the root zone from all sides, providing oxygen to roots and facilitating a process called “air root pruning.” As roots grow to the sides of the container they are signalled to stop growing once they reach the air. As a result, the roots will not circle and the plant will instead produce more secondary and tertiary roots and a dense, fibrous root system develops. When air root pruning is introduced at the beginning of a plant’s life cycle circling roots do not occur and will not need to be corrected upon transplanting, both removing a costly labor step and reducing transplant shock to the young plant.
This slotted design feature is present on the RediRoot Classic Aeration Propagation Systems as well, but what makes the new Essential line of trays different is the standard 10x20 configuration of cells and a standard automation-sized hole at the bottom of each cell. The result is an air root pruning propagation tray that works for an increasingly automated industry. With these trays nurseries have the choice to use their own preferred mixes for each cultivar or they can use pre-formed media plugs such as Jiffy® Pellets to allow them to cull and sort plants as needed in the trays.
RediRoot Essential 10x20 Propagation Trays are available for purchase beginning February 27th. If you are interested in this product, or any other RediRoot Product, you can contact RediRoot directly through their website rediroot.com or by calling 800.654.2116.
