The purpose of this program is to prepare chiropractors to utilize dynamic palpation assessments of spinal joints and surrounding soft tissues and functional testing as part of a thorough examination.  Emphasis will be placed on the interpretation of the assessment findings and how to correlate this information with other historical and examination data.  Treatment options in the form of diversified adjustive procedures and rehabilitation methods of the lumbar spine and pelvis will be discussed and demonstrated.

This lecture provides an introduction to McKenzie Method® of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy® (MDT), a system of assessment, classification, treatment & prevention of musculoskeletal disorders that is safe, reliable, valid, predictive and evidence-based. The assessment incorporates repeated test movements in various planes and static positions to determine the direction in which a patient needs to move and with how much force to begin (based on centralization of symptoms and changes to obstructed movement). This can be especially important to a chiropractor as it not only helps improve safety but it can also help validate the direction of the adjustment. By determining a directional preference, there is a greater likelihood that a patient’s pain will reduce in a short time period. This can allow a chiropractor to introduce active care rehabilitation earlier in the patient’s treatment, which can demonstrate even further value to third-party payers. With patients that are in too much pain or have contraindications to being adjusted, McKenzie Method offers safe and effective treatment protocols. There is also far less physical stress to a chiropractor incorporating McKenzie Method in comparison to other spinal or extremity techniques. This helps to protect a chiropractor’s shoulders, low back, wrists, and thumbs. McKenzie isRead More

This is a one hour course introducing the Chiropractic Physician to electrodiagnostics (Edx). Although Edx is the most frequent diagnostic physiological test performed in medicine for neuromusculoskeletal complaints, it is widely underutilized in our profession. This course will demystify these tests and will clearly allow one to understand what they are, when to utilize them and what they tell us about our patient. Nerve conduction studies, EMG and evoked potentials will be discussed and case-based examples will be provided. Lastly, avenues to take to implement these services into and how they can enhance your practice will be discussed as well.

It is aimed at chiropractors, chiropractic assistants and students that would like to be able to confidently communicate about chiropractic in a manner that is congruent with the latest scientific evidence. Recent scientific studies are revealing a new understanding about how spinal adjustments work. Heidi Haavik, a chiropractor and PhD trained neurophysiologist has spent the past 16 years studying the changes that occur in the brain when chiropractors adjust chiropractic subluxations. Contrary to earlier beliefs within the scientific community, a recent wave of discovery has quite clearly revealed that the brain retains its ability to adapt to its ever-changing environment throughout life. Furthermore, it is becoming clear to neuroscientists how important it is for our brains to maintain an accurate and up-to-date inner ‘map’, of the location of our muscles and joints in 3D space and relative to each other, and how detrimental a faulty inner map can be for an individual. If you think about it, it’s really very simple. Most of what you perceive as reality is simply what your brain considersRead More
