    OVERLAND PARK, Kan., June 18, 2019—Healthcare IT partner Netsmart announced its recent partnership with hospice and palliative care provider, Capital Caring. The Virginia-based healthcare organization selected Netsmart services and solutions to enrich person-centered care in hospice and palliative care by enhancing the clinician experience through improved workflows and access to the complete historical patient health record.

    As staffing shortages and retention continue to present challenges for hiring and retaining top clinical talent, user experience and satisfaction are key focuses for many healthcare organizations as they look to select a technology partner. Value-based care also contributes to the transformation of how care is coordinated and delivered, requiring providers to make strategic moves to support holistic, cross-continuum care and put in place tools and resources to make it easy for clinicians to focus on what they do best – deliver care.

    Hospice and palliative care providers must have the ability to easily share and receive information with providers in acute and primary care settings to deliver true person-centered care. To facilitate the best care with the individual in mind, Capital Caring searched for a solution that not only included an easy-to-use system with intuitive, role-based workflows but also included interoperability capabilities to support connections with acute care referral sources, further enhancing their coordination with local health systems.

    The Netsmart myUnity electronic health record (EHR) allows Capital Caring to eliminate paper and allow nurses to receive clinical data electronically and reconcile it with their data to avoid unnecessary rekeying, which often leads to errors and nurse and patient dissatisfaction. Comprehensive access to the record provides a clear view for clinicians, enabling improved clinical decision making along with creating more time to spend with patients.

  • Netsmart Acquires Consulting Firm McBee

    Purchase will bolster Netsmart offerings to customers as they undergo major reimbursement model change

    Netsmart, which offers electronic health record (EHR) software for behavioral health, senior living and social services, has acquired Pennsylvania-based healthcare consulting firm McBee.

    Overland Park, Kan.-based Netsmart said its healthcare IT solutions and services coupled with McBee’s professional services would provide with a comprehensive knowledge foundation for community and acute-care organizations as they strive to manage the complex operational, financial and clinical requirements of value-based care and the assumption of risk.

    This acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, expands Netsmart’s consulting offerings in change management, revenue cycle management, advisory and education services. Netsmart has more than 1,700 employees and more than 600,000 users in 25,000 organizations. On the 2018 Healthcare Informatics 100, a list of the top 100 health IT vendors ranked by revenue, Netsmart ranked 44th with a self-reported annual revenue of $319 million.

    McBee, which has 250 employees and serves more than 3,800 providers, offers strategic consulting in areas such as business organization structure, care management and clinical compliance, denials and appeals, bundled payments, billing and coding, OASIS accuracy, revenue recovery and more. These services are  particularly valuable in the community and acute care markets as they undergo major reimbursement model changes.

    Netsmart had a two-year relationship with health IT company Allscripts. In March 2016, Allscripts contributed its homecare business to Netsmart, in exchange for the largest ownership stake in the company. In 2018 Allscripts announced it would sell its stake in Netsmart to private equity firms TA Associates and GI Partners for $525 million.
