This session will focus on preparing for the next evolution in the home health revenue cycle, which is the replacement of RAPs with the new NOA, effective 01/01/22. The session will offer the latest on NOA billing requirements and strategies for preparing revenue cycle workflows, assessing software vendor billing and reporting readiness, and providing workforce training. Two of the most pressing challenges facing providers going into PDGM were the transition to two 30-day billing periods within each 60-day episode, and the change in the LUPA threshold from 5 visits in a 60-day episode to varying thresholds of 2-6 visits per each 30-day billing period. Historical data told us providers would face a difficult time managing varying LUPA thresholds within subsequent 30-day periods. 2020 CMS claims data proved this to be true. This session will focus on 2020 trends identified in subsequent 30-day period LUPA and strategies implemented to successfully manage and mitigate avoidable LUPAs in subsequent periods.
