Lisa Schroeder is President & CEO of Parks & People Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that everyone in Baltimore is connected to nature, their community, and each other through vibrant parks and green spaces. Parks & People is investing in transformative park projects and green spaces throughout Baltimore City on a variety of scales – from neighborhood parks on demolition sites to a new master plan for the historic Middle Branch waterfront. As one of the largest non-school based academic enrichment providers in Baltimore City, Parks & People works with more than 100 City Schools yearly to connect 2,000 youth with the outdoors through environmental education programs.
Lisa has returned to her hometown of Baltimore from Pittsburgh, where she led the growth of the non-profit, Riverlife, from a start-up in 2001 into a civic force that transformed 13 miles of industrial downtown riverfront into Three Rivers Park. During her tenure, a cumulative investment of $135M in ten projects created 63 new acres of green space, trails and marinas along the waterfront to reposition the shorelines as a new front door to the city, attracting millions of new users and more than $4 billion invested in adjacent real estate.
Lisa’s leadership has earned her a GMCC Community Service Award (2016); the AIA Gold Medal Award (2012); the Outstanding Women in Business Award (2011), and a “Top Environmental Hero” award (2009). Lisa has been a speaker at sustainability and waterfront development conferences in Lisbon, Naples, Toronto and Genoa and addresses national organizations, including the AIA and the International Downtown Association. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa with an MS degree from Columbia University School of Architecture.
