Major League Baseball today announced that RCX Sports has been selected as the official operator of MLB’s youth baseball and softball skills competitions – Jr. Home Run Derby and Pitch, Hit & Run.

The premier youth-sports experiences business will handle all logistics – including registration, promotion and event execution – for local competitions, regional championships and the national finals that culminate at the MLB All-Star Game and World Series, respectively.

“We are very excited to work with RCX Sports as we launch this year’s Jr. Home Run Derby and Pitch, Hit & Run competitions throughout the country and in Canada,” said Tony Reagins, Chief Baseball Development Officer, Major League Baseball. “Their reputation across youth sports aligns well with our goals to bring our premier youth baseball and softball skills competitions to children everywhere. We look forward to seeing their fun and innovative ideas put into action.”

“RCX Sports is committed to creating best-in-class experiences for all youth athletes, regardless of race, gender or socioeconomic background,” said RCX Sports CEO Izell Reese. “We are proud to add MLB to our list of world-class partners and look forward to supporting its youth baseball and softball events.”

Host registration for the sixth annual Jr. Home Run Derby local competitions are now open across the United States and Canada, including for the first-ever softball division.

The program will be led by RCX VP of Events and three-time softball All-American Garland Cooper. Cooper led the Northwestern Wildcats to two-straight Women’s College World Series appearances and a Big Ten championship and went on to play professionally in the National Professional Fastpitch League and overseas in the Japanese Softball League. In 2021, more than 800 baseball competitions across the U.S. were held.

Jr. Home Run Derby Baseball is broken down into two divisions, ages 11-12 and 13-14.

The Softball divisions will be 16-under and 14-under. A total of 32 finalists (eight per division) will be invited to compete in the Finals during MLB All-Star Week in Los Angeles, at which they will participate in or attend a variety of special activities including PLAY BALL Park, the MLB Draft and the T-Mobile Home Run Derby. To register to host a local competition, please visit MLB.com/junior-home-run-derby.

The annual Pitch, Hit & Run competition includes baseball and softball participants from four age divisions (7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14), in which participants are tested for accuracy (pitching), distance (hitting) and speed (running).

In 2021, youth participated in more than 1,700 competitions in either the baseball or softball sectors of each age division, after which 24 MLB ballparks hosted team championships from late July through September. In 2022, MLB will invite finalists from these divisions to compete during an off-day amid the 2022 World Series. All finalists will attend Game Four of the Fall Classic. Many Major League players – including Andrew McCutchenRhys HoskinsEric HosmerMatt WislerJoey Gallo and J.P. Crawford – are all Pitch, Hit & Run alumni. First overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft Adley Rutschman (Baltimore Orioles) is also an alum of the program, having competed in 2006.

Both competitions are part of the PLAY BALL initiative, which is baseball’s global effort to encourage young people and communities to engage in baseball- or softball-related activities, including formal leagues, special events and casual forms of play.

  • 64 Youth Flag Football Teams Representing All 32 NFL Clubs to Participate

NEW YORK, NY (July 26, 2023) – For the first time ever, the NFL will host the Flag All 32 Summer Invitational, a two-day tournament that will showcase NFL FLAG youth teams from across the country. The tournament will be played across two leagues of flag football, 14U Coed and 17U Girls, with each league comprised of 32 teams, each representing a different NFL club.

The Invitational, activated by RCX Sports, marks the first time that every club will be participating in a youth event together to promote participation in flag football and will take place on the RFK Campus in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, July 29, and Sunday, July 30.

“The NFL FLAG All 32 Invitational gives each NFL club an opportunity to celebrate flag football as well as allowing participants to compete with players from their home market,” said ROMAN OBEN, NFL Vice President of Football Development. “The tournament also gives fans an opportunity to see a growing group of flag players and how they stack up against their peers.”

The 32 flag football teams in each of the 14U Coed and 17U Girls leagues will compete in eight divisions across two conferences, where each team will compete against the other teams from their NFL clubs’ division. Each of the four division winners as well as four wild card winners from each conference will move into an NFL-style playoff format, a single-elimination tournament until there is one representative from both conferences remaining. In each of the two leagues, the championship games will crown the 2023 NFL Flag All 32 Summer Invitational Champions. All flag football teams in the Invitational must be participating in an active NFL FLAG league.

“The All 32 Summer Invitational is another opportunity for our team to highlight the amazing youth talent that NFL FLAG is developing throughout our leagues,” said IZELL REESE, CEO and Founder of RCX Sports and a Flag Football Ambassador. “By inviting and funding competitive teams from across the country to join this breakthrough tournament, we are able to take away the financial barrier that some competitive teams may face.”

Flag football is one of the world’s fastest-growing sports disciplines, played by over 20 million people in more than 100 countries, across every continent. It is the most inclusive and accessible format of football, played by people of all ages and genders, with female athletes driving some of the fastest growth.  Reese and fellow Flag Football Ambassadors Torry Holt and Tony Richardson, will appear at the 2023 NFL Flag All 32 Summer Invitational to promote the growth of flag football and bring awareness to the Invitational.

More than 90 Alabama Recreation & Park Association Agencies Gain Access to RCX Sports’ Experiential Programs

MONTGOMERY, AL. (April 6, 2023) – RCX Sports announced a new partnership today with the Alabama Recreation & Parks Association (ARPA) as part of an initiative to expand the accessibility of youth sports across Alabama.

Alabama is the first state to form a collaboration with RCX Sports, which will bring their signature youth sports programs to ARPA’s agency list comprised of more than 500 individual members of parks and recreation departments, townships, leisure services and other agencies.

RCX Sports offers experiential youth sports opportunities in collaboration with major professional sports leagues, such as NFL FLAG, NHL STREET, Jr. NBA Leagues, MLB Pitch, Hit & Run and Jr. Home Run Derby, designed to empower youth athletes of all backgrounds to “Play with the Pros.” Now, Alabama youth athletes can access these programs through local ARPA organizations across the state, including the NFL FLAG Alabama league, which will have a statewide annual tournament.

RCX Sports will provide the equipment for these programs and facilitate the setup process for ARPA member agencies. Alabama families will have the opportunity to enroll their children in several youth sports leagues, with each athlete getting the chance to don the logo of professional sports teams on their jerseys.

The Alabama native, seven-year NFL veteran and UAB football alum, Izell Reese, is leading this initiative at the helm of RCX Sports as company CEO. Reese has remained engaged at the grassroots level of Alabama youth sports by launching a free football camp in his hometown of Dothan along with a community center which include turf fields for flag football.

“As a native of Dothan, Alabama, I’m excited to work with ARPA to give back, not only to my community, but to dozens of communities across my home state,” said Izell Reese, CEO of RCX Sports. “This will allow us to expand the accessibility and inclusivity of our youth sports experiences to thousands of young Alabama athletes and instill skills that can be used on and off the playing field.”

Established in 1943, ARPA is a 501(c)(6) non-profit professional organization that enables parks and recreation affiliates and professionals, through educational and networking opportunities, to enhance the quality of life for citizens of Alabama.

Through its programs, ARPA aims to benefit Alabama’s economy, environment, communities and individuals. As part of the collaboration, they will organize coaching and training clinics as well as coordinate an annual statewide flag football tournament using NFL FLAG rules.

“Working alongside RCX Sports will allow us to better live out our mission of ensuring health, wellness, safety and access for all,” said Natalie Norman, Executive Director at ARPA. “The experiential youth sports programs they conduct are well-produced, affordable, inclusive and gives our agencies another offering to keep athletes healthy and active.”

Alabama families can expect to see these “Play with the Pros” opportunities come to life for youth athletes as early as summer of 2023. ARPA’s statewide partner agencies will receive information as it becomes available.

RCX Sports’ partnership is a continuation of their commitment to enhancing the accessibility and inclusivity of youth sports and ARPA’s dedication to making a difference in their communities. To learn more, visit rcxsports.com.

NHL STREET will bring new style, energy and gameplay to the sport, offering families an affordable, neighborhood-based model that gives kids across North America an opportunity to learn and play hockey

NEW YORK/TORONTO, February 22, 2023 – The National Hockey League today announced a strategic partnership with RCX Sports, the leader in organized youth sports experiences, to officially launch “NHL STREET™,” a North America-wide youth street hockey league.

Positioned to be the premier ball hockey experience, NHL STREET is designed to provide kids and their families with the best of what youth sports can be: having fun, staying active, making friends and creating great memories. Designed for children ages 6 to 16, NHL STREET athletes will feel like the pros when they suit up in authentic uniforms to play in high-energy, team-first leagues. Longtime NHL-licensed equipment partner Franklin Sports has created an exclusive line of equipment for participants, including branded sticks, balls and goalie equipment.

NHL STREET will bring new style, energy and gameplay to the sport, offering families an affordable, neighborhood-based model that gives kids across North America an opportunity to learn and play hockey.

“With NHL STREET, we’re not inventing ball hockey, but we are reimagining the way you experience it, the way it makes you feel and how it connects back to the NHL,” said Andrew Ference, NHL Alumnus and NHL Director of Social Impact, Growth and Fan Development. “We’re focused on developing a network of local youth organizers that provide kids and their parents a new way to access the sport that meets their budget, schedule and personal development needs.”

RCX Sports is the premier youth sports experiences business, running and operating leagues, camps, combines, tournaments and events. RCX Sports works with professional leagues, national governing bodies, sports-centric businesses and brands to reimagine youth sports experiences and is committed to improving the accessibility and inclusivity of sports by creating opportunities for all athletes to play.

“Our mission is to improve the accessibility and inclusivity of sports by creating opportunities for all athletes to play,” said RCX Sports CEO Izell Reese. “NHL STREET will help alleviate many of the traditional barriers that youth hockey athletes face and allow them to experience the excitement and benefits of the sport first-hand.”

    CORPORATE PARTNERSHIP

Longtime NHL corporate partner Tim Hortons is continuing its support of NHL STREET across Canada. For over thirty years, Tim Hortons has supported positive hockey experiences at all levels of the game, from when a child takes their first stride on skates, to the NHL and beyond. Through NHL STREET, Tim Hortons expands its commitment to grow the sport in non-traditional forms, in neighborhoods from coast-to-coast – engaging existing hockey families, and those new to the game and new to the country.

“We’re proud to be continuing our partnership with the NHL on NHL STREET, which is strongly aligned with our Let’s Up Our Game diversity and inclusion platform and our mission to improve accessibility to hockey and foster a new generation of players,” said Hope Bagozzi, Chief Marketing Officer for Tim Hortons. “We want to help make hockey a more inclusive, more diverse, and more welcoming game. NHL STREET brings a more accessible form of hockey to underrepresented and diverse youth in communities across Canada, which allows more kids to enjoy the game, learn skills and teamwork all while having fun.”

    NHL CREATIVE & JERSEY DESIGN

The NHL’s Creative Services Department has developed a complete line of Club-branded NHL STREET uniforms that include sublimated, reversible shirts with elements for personalization, such as a write-in name patch above jersey numbers. All players will receive an exclusive jersey when they participate in an NHL STREET event or league.

    EQUIPMENT

An NHL licensee since 1993, Franklin Sports has redesigned its entire line of ball hockey equipment – including sticks, balls, gloves, goalie equipment and shooter tutors – to align with the new NHL STREET brand.

“Franklin Sports and the NHL have worked in unison for three decades to help grow the game in driveways, living rooms and school gymnasiums across the US and Canada through our NHL-branded ball, street and knee hockey equipment,” says Chris Rodday, who heads the family-owned Brand Partnerships Department. “We are ecstatic to play a small part in supporting the League’s revamped NHL STREET programming alongside our joint-partner, RCX Sports who makes these leagues come to life at the grassroots level. As a Boston-based company, we have hockey in our DNA and we can’t wait to share the love of the sport with new participants and fans across North America via our new NHL STREET branded product line!”

    EVOLUTION OF NHL STREET

The NHL’s initial venture into off-ice hockey first began in 1995, with the creation of NHL BREAKOUT – a traveling grassroots street and roller hockey tournament and hockey festival that was held in nine North American cities. During its inaugural campaign, the festival had over 125,000 individuals compete in the world’s premier off-ice hockey tournament that combined competitive tournament play with a variety of interactive hockey-themed activities, NHL player meet and greets, skills clinics and entertainment. The tournament’s international debut followed in 1996 when NHL BREAKOUT EUROPE drew an estimated 300,000 European fans during a six-country, 22-city tour.

Between February and September of 2022, NHL corporate partners, Enterprise in the U.S. and Tim Hortons in Canada, supported more than 2,000 youth players who participated in a series of pilot NHL STREET Festival and Showcase events hosted in Las Vegas, Montreal, Nashville, Vancouver and Winnipeg. Student athletes in attendance were given a first-hand look at the new and improved NHL STREET through a series of games, and skill stations testing their hockey ability.

NBA AND WNBA TO LAUNCH NATIONAL NETWORK OF YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUES TO ENHANCE AND EXPAND RECREATIONAL BASKETBALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY

    – ‘Jr. NBA Leagues’ to Tip Off in 11 Markets in November 2022 Before Expanding Nationwide; Program Aims to Reach Nearly a Half Million Boys and Girls Annually by 2027 –

    – Las Vegas Aces, New Orleans Pelicans, Philadelphia 76ers, Sacramento Kings, San Antonio Spurs, Seattle Storm, Washington Mystics and Washington Wizards Among NBA and WNBA Teams Participating in the Program’s Launch –

NEW YORK, July 14, 2022 – The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) today announced the launch of Jr. NBA Leagues, a national network of youth basketball leagues for boys and girls ages 6-14. The program will tip off with leagues across the following 11 markets in the U.S. in November 2022 before expanding nationwide with the goal of reaching nearly a half million participants annually by 2027: Sacramento, Calif.; Washington, D.C.; Boise, Idaho; Louisville, Ky.; New Orleans, La.; Kansas City, Mo.; Omaha, Neb.; Las Vegas, Nev.; Philadelphia, Pa.; San Antonio, Texas; Seattle, Wash.

Jr. NBA Leagues will focus on providing youth across socio-economic, racial and gender lines with access to best-in-class recreational basketball, which is more important than ever following the disruption to youth sports access and the decrease in community-based sports providers caused by the pandemic.

RCX Sports, a Jr. NBA partner since 2018 and market leader in youth sports experiences, will serve as the program’s official operating partner. All Jr. NBA Leagues members – which will include a combination of community-based organizations, schools, and independent operators – will receive a robust suite of resources including training opportunities and basketball curricula designed to enhance league effectiveness, gameplay, and on-court and off-court player and coach development.

Jr. NBA Leagues participants will represent NBA and WNBA teams in their home markets and across the leagues by competing in official team-branded uniforms. Jr. NBA Leagues in NBA or WNBA markets, including Las Vegas (Aces), New Orleans (Pelicans), Philadelphia (76ers) Sacramento (Kings), San Antonio (Spurs), Seattle (Storm), and Washington (Wizards and Mystics), will offer unique benefits and include exclusive experiences for youth players and parents to promote the game of basketball and generate excitement around the hometown teams.

Building on the Jr. NBA’s commitment to providing broad-based access to the sport and eliminating barriers to participation, the Jr. NBA will partner with SHAPE America (Society of Health and Physical Educators), a professional association that serves more than 200,000 health and physical education professionals across the country, to provide 40 Title I schools across the country with Jr. NBA programming, resources and basketball development curricula to host after school Jr. NBA Leagues and improve how the game is taught and played in physical education classes. Additionally, high school students will receive the opportunity to enroll in a Jr. NBA Referee Development Program to learn the necessary skills to become a referee and gain an understanding of the career opportunities in officiating.

“The youth basketball ecosystem has experienced unique challenges over the past two-plus years, and we are committed to addressing those challenges with programs like Jr. NBA Leagues, which is the most expansive grassroots basketball initiative we’ve ever launched in the U.S.,” said NBA Senior Vice President, Head of Youth Basketball Development David Krichavsky. “We look forward to using the resources and expertise of the NBA, WNBA and our teams to support recreational and community-based youth basketball programs at a time when they need it most, while also enhancing the playing experience for hundreds of thousands of boys and girls.”

“RCX Sports is committed to creating best-in-class experiences for all youth athletes, regardless of race, gender or socioeconomic background,” said RCX Sports CEO Izell Reese. “We are proud to work with the NBA on another youth program that will provide access and resources to young basketball players across the country.”
More information about Jr. NBA Leagues is available on JrNBALeagues.com. To learn more about the Jr. NBA, visit jr.nba.com or follow the Jr. NBA on Facebook (Jr. NBA), Instagram (@jrnba), YouTube (Jr. NBA) and Twitter (@jrnba).

  • The Largest Youth Flag Football League in the U.S.

Serving youth athletes ages 4 to 17 years old across the country. NFL FLAG leagues are no contact, giving boys and girls of all abilities a chance to develop their fundamental football skills in a positive, inclusive environment.

    OUR STORY

    • In the 1990s, when the NFL launched a global health and wellness initiative called Play Football, they had one goal: to make football accessible for all children—no matter their age, size, or gender. And this is where the idea for NFL FLAG began.

    • In 1994, the NFL officially kicked off its first youth camp series at the New England Patriots’ stadium, where they introduced the rules of flag football and taught children how to play. Shortly after, leagues began to pop up nearby in Massachusetts—and they quickly took off. By the early 2000s, youth athletes all over the U.S. were participating in NFL FLAG, from school programs to local park districts to Boys and Girls Clubs.

    • Today, with more than 600,000 participants, NFL FLAG continues to evolve. It’s a pathway for female athletes to play in college, as well as an outlet for tackle athletes to compete in the offseason. But as NFL FLAG grows, one thing stays the same: It’s a place for every boy and girl to play football.

    OUR MISSION

Our mission is to empower youth athletes and instill a lifelong passion for flag football through leagues that are engaging, fun, and accessible for everyone.

With the support of the NFL, we provide a structured opportunity for kids to discover the importance of sportsmanship, teamwork, and friendship—both on and off the field.

    TOURNAMENTS & EVENTS

The NFL FLAG tournament series brings together leagues from across the country to showcase their talent and compete against top teams. The NFL FLAG Regional Tournament Series is an invite-only event, where winners from each region are invited to face off at the national NFL FLAG Championships at Pro Bowl Games.

    FLAG IS ON THE RISE

While youth participation in sports has declined 13 percent over the last decade, flag football has become one the fastest growing youth sports in the country. In fact, the number of 6-to-12-year-olds playing has increased by 38 percent, to more than 1.5 million, since 2015. And NFL FLAG is leading the way as the largest flag football league in the U.S., with more than 1,600 leagues in 50 states.

    FEMALES IN FLAG

NFL FLAG is dedicated to creating more opportunities for female athletes to participate in flag football.  We know that the game will only get stronger with the more girls who play. In addition to implementing girls-only leagues and tournaments, we’ve also teamed up with National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and RCX Sports to make women’s flag football a sanctioned college sport for the first in history.

    COMMUNITY IMPACT

We’re committed  to creating positive sports experiences for youth athletes, regardless of their financial situation, so that they can become confident, happy, and healthy adults.

That’s why we’ve made strategic partnerships to bring flag football to the thousands of schools, communities, and families.

    • GENYOUth and NFLFLAG created FLAGS-In-Schools, a comprehensive flag football toolkit designed for elementary, middle, and high school PE teachers to implement into their classes. Over 24,000 school communities are using NFL FLAG-In-School kits to build high-achieving futures for their students through physical education.

    • Every Kid Sports is a nonprofit organization with a goal of removing the financial barriers that typically prevent kids from signing up for youth sports. Starting in 2021, we’re excited to announce that Every Kid Sports will pay all NFL FLAG registration fees for qualifying athletes.
