  • Center for Dairy Excellence Resources
    The Center for Dairy Excellence leverages funds provided through the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to provide grants to individual farms to establish either a Dairy Profit, Transition or Transformation Team....
     

    • Dairy Excellence Grants: If you are looking to improve cow comfort, milk production per cow, or efficiency on your dairy, the Center for Dairy Excellence leverages funds provided through the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to provide Dairy Excellence Grants to support improvement projects on the farm. If you are approved for the grant, you will receive a 50 percent match, up to a maximum matching level of $5,000. Learn more.
    • Dairy Profit Teams: Dairy farms with existing profit teams or that establish a new profit team to work in an advisory role for the farm can receive up to $2,000 in reimbursements for paid team members and discovery-related costs. Profit teams typically consist of the farm’s most trusted advisors, with a facilitator designated to coordinate the meetings and work flow.* Learn more.
    • Dairy Transition Teams: This grant is designed to help the farm establish a team to develop a transition or succession plan. Farms can apply to receive up to $3,000 in funding, which could cover the cost of paid team members, discovery-related costs and lawyer expenses.* Learn more.
    • Dairy Transformation Teams: The Transformation Team* option allows producers considering a major business transformation to apply to receive up to $5,000 to establish a team to help plan and work through that transformation. Learn more. *Manure storage facility improvements do not qualify as eligible Transformation Team projects. 
    • Dairy Decisions Consultant Grants: The Center for Dairy Excellence offers a list of 17 Dairy Decisions Consultants who can work with farms in one of three key areas: Business Performance and Reaching Financial Benchmarks, New Business Opportunity Exploration, and Employee Relations & Development.     • Risk Management ResourcesThe Center can help you develop a risk management plan for your dairy. Zach Myers, the Center’s risk education manager, can visit your farm or with small groups of farmers to help you think through how to better manage your on-farm risks. Learn more.
    • Financial Planning ResourcesTo be truly successful and profitable over the long term, it is essential to understand your cost of production. One of the first steps involves calculating your operation’s breakeven costs and making a realistic assessment to evaluate opportunities for improvement. Learn more.
