Welcome to the Pennsylvania 4-H program!

Profile

4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. Pennsylvania 4-H serves youth from 8-18 years old and kids as young as 5 can begin their journey with 4-H as a Cloverbud. The main focus of 4-H is learning through hands-on as well as digital projects, alongside screened adult volunteers.

4-H offers a learning experience for everyone, from raising livestock to programming robots. The programs are delivered through Penn State Extension with county educators providing access to learning and fun in our communities.

 Show Specials

  • (Aug 06, 2020)

In Pennsylvania 4-H is open to all young people regardless of where they live, what their backgrounds are, or what interests them.

    Ages 5 to 8

4-H Cloverbuds is an exciting 4-H program for 5 to 8-year-old children in Pennsylvania. Like the 4-H program for older youth, Cloverbuds can help youngsters grow into competent, caring and contributing members of their families and communities. The program offers noncompetitive, age-appropriate activities designed to help children learn about life.

    Ages 8 to 18

Anyone aged 8 to 18 by January 1 of the current year, living anywhere in Pennsylvania, can join the program.

Parents are welcomed as helpers at home or as club volunteers.

    Cost

No uniforms are required. Since the 4-H program is supported through other resources, the only cost to members is typically a small fee to help cover a portion of the cost of educational materials, club support, or project materials. Anyone who is unable to pay a requested fee can discuss options for financial assistance with the 4-H leader or county extension educator.

    How to Join

Parents are provided with easy-to-follow instruction on executing fun, yet educational activities with household items. These activities encourage self-guided learning, creativity and problem-solving.

    Activities include the following:

--Photography Challenge. A self-directed photography challenge with a new theme each week. Photography tips are also provided. Youth can share their photos through social media by including #pa4-Hhomeactivities.

--The Exciting Egg. The lesson provides youth with an opportunity to identify the parts of an egg, using their scientific names. Youth also will learn about the difference between fertile eggs and infertile eggs.

--Nature Scavenger Hunt. Participants will learn to look for signs of wildlife and will develop their observation skills in nature.

Additional “Inspire Kids to Do Home Activities” projects will be released throughout the year. Visit https://extension.psu.edu/4-h-home-activities for a complete list of activities, and follow Pennsylvania 4-H on Facebook or Instagram to find out the featured activity of the week.

4-H programs touch an estimated 95,000 youth in Pennsylvania. The program empowers youth between the ages of 5-18 with life-skills and knowledge to help them realize their full potential as contributing and productive members of society.
