Today’s laboratories are under pressure to do more testing with fewer resources and to quickly turnaround high quality sample results all while meeting regulatory requirements. Laboratories are extremely dynamic with new instruments coming on-line, new tests being introduced, and continually evolving customer demands, expanded regulatory requirements, now more than ever, it is critical that they understand the benefits of automation. As business needs and regulatory requirements continue to evolve, and instruments become more sensitive, there is an overwhelming amount of data and information that needs to be managed, maintained and protected. It is becoming increasingly difficult to remain competitive without data management technology, such as Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and laboratory automation such as positive ID (Barcoding/Scanning), the use of integrated sensors (refrigerators, freezers, incubators, etc.), leveraging mobile technology to capture data at the bench or in the field and integrating with the laboratory instruments in order to increase throughput, productivity and generate a high, quality data. Modern laboratories also leverage client portals and enterprise integration to maximize automation and provide real-time data access and the total solution. Laboratories that leverage automation technology not only save time, resources and generate higher data quality, but they also create a happy and productive workplace. It is important that knowledge workers have the tools that they need to have higher workplace satisfaction. In addition, to having a well-equipped work force, the laboratory automation system leverages technology to increase the laboratory throughput, minimize errors, and increase profitability. This talk will focus on the steps required to acquire and implement automation solutions and how these solutions will help the laboratory to facilitate regulatory compliance and help laboratories to grow and prosper.
