Separations on Small Volume Samples
Tuesday, March 09, 2021: 1:30 PM - 4:40 PM
Speaker(s)
Description
Separation-based analysis of minute specimens including tissues, clinical fluids, or single cells requires novel miniaturized front-end approaches suitable for the quantity of starting material. This symposium will focus on: (1) systems for processing small clinical, tissue, or cellular samples for high-performance separation; and (2) miniaturized sample preparation that enables separations.

Human tissues contain a variety of cell types and subtypes with distinct functions, and understanding protein expression in tissue substructures and single cells is of great importance for biomedical research. Although LC-MS-based proteomic analyses are capable of quantifying thousands of proteins, the extension to single cell studies has been largely...

Tears play blood-like roles for the cornea that itself is lacking in blood vessels. Chemical composition of the tear film is just starting to be recognized for its diagnostic potential for assessment of eye and systemic health. The collection of tears is non-invasive, and can be facile, rapid, and self-collected....

Glycosylation is a post translational protein modification critical to physiological function, impacting the efficacy of biological therapeutics, which is significant given that the annual global market for antibody therapeutics alone is estimated to be 125 billion USD. Glycans, which are composed of saccharides, are challenging to analyze because the monomeric...

Ionic liquids (ILs) can be designed to exhibit unique properties for their use in a number of applications in analytical and bioanalytical chemistry. This talk will focus on the design and synthesis of ILs, magnetic ionic liquids (MILs), and polymeric ionic liquids (PILs) as well as the use of these...

Preconcentration by solid-phase extraction (SPE) is a versatile sample preparation approach that can improve detection limits in chemical analysis. Implementation of SPE within 3D printed microfluidic systems offers further advantages, including potential for on-chip integration with other sample preparation or electrophoretic analysis tools [1]. We have developed reverse-phase lauryl methacrylate...
