A Successful LIMS Deployment Begins with a Needs Assessment (Gap Analysis)

  • Session Number: P113
Monday, March 08, 2021: 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM

Christine Paszko
Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing
Accelerated Technology Laboratories

For organizations seeking a successful LIMS implementation, the first step should include having an external subject matter expert provide consulting service known as a LIMS needs assessment. The needs assessment (gap analysis) is ideal for organizations that are planning to invest in a LIMS and see value in bringing in an external expert to assist with defining the business and technical requirements. Often the internal team understands some of the benefits, but may not be aware of others and that is where an external expert provides significant value as they can share their expertise and lessons learned. The needs assessment can provide the business, not only justification, and a valuable roadmap to a successful LIMS implementation. It can also help avoid potential pitfalls along the way. In this presentation we will highlight the keys tools that are leveraged in conducting a needs assessment. The presentation will focus on the techniques for investigating organizational and personnel needs. The following techniques will be discussed:  Questionnaire/Survey  Direct Observation  Consultation with persons in key positions with specific knowledge  Interviews  Focus Groups  Records and Report Studies (Past Audit Findings) The attendees will gain insight into the mechanics of conducting an assessment and will understand the benefits to the organization, the LIMS team and the project.
