Description
One of the primary decisions a laboratory must make when selecting a laboratory information management system (LIMS) is the manner of deployment. Current technologies allow for software to be installed and administered either on-site (premise), or, having access to hosted software in the cloud (Software as a Service, SaaS). Both deployment options present advantages as well as downsides.
In this presentation, we will explore the critical similarities and differences between premise and SaaS deployments. We will describe the hosting options; the installation and access process; and the look and feel of web-based vs workstation software. We will present a cost analysis differentiating between local IT and hosted technical support; security, and hardware requirements (Total Cost of Ownership, TOC). This discussion will help attendees determine the criteria they can use to decide which deployment is best for them. We will conclude with a discussion on the benefits you will gain from laboratory automation from either option.
