Description

As the number of analytical challenges in the development and commercialization of Pharmaceuticals and Biopharmaceuticals have grown, so have the number of innovative applications of Raman spectroscopy. Raman spectroscopy has become a powerful knowledge generating tool in the development cycle of new pharmaceuticals, from determining raw material quality and stability, to reaction kinetic profiling and crystal form identification. By leveraging the advantages of rapid analysis time that Raman affords over traditional analytical instrumentation, the process knowledge generated during development has greatly increased whilst shortening the development cycle time. The applications of Raman continue to expand through the scale-up process and into the manufacturing plants, where strict process control is paramount to controlling the critical quality attributes (CQA) of the final drug product. This presentation will highlight the Raman voyage from early development to the transferability of in-line and off-line methods at various stages of development. This voyage ultimately culminates in the speedy and successful production of small molecules and biologics in Pharma while ensuring reliable and safe products for patients.
