Description

Personal Care Products (PCP) like cosmetics, fragrances, and toiletries are used daily by millions of people worldwide. In some cases, people may experience allergic reactions to these PCPs. These include itching, rashes, or similar types of contact dermatitis. Regulatory agencies, like the US FDA and the European Union Cosmetics Directive have identified 26 PCP ingredients as potential allergens. In this poster, we describe two analytical methods to determine 59 potential allergens in Personal Care Products. One approach to identifying these potential allergens in PCPs utilizes Comprehensive (Multidimensional) GC with a mass spectrometer detector (GCxGC-MS). The other approach uses GC with triple quadrupole mass detector (GCMS/MS). Both techniques allowed accurate quantitation of 59 potential allergens in PCPs with short run times to increase sample throughput.
