Description
Sidewalk Management can be used to inventory sidewalks and curb ramps, streamline assessment and maintenance activities, and understand conditions and compliance.
Sidewalks and curb ramps within the public right-of-way are essential community assets. They support pedestrian safety, promote physical activity, and foster community engagement. Walkable and accessible pedestrian infrastructures significantly enhance the quality of life for all residents. Unfortunately, communities struggle to maintain an accurate sidewalk inventory and access to authoritative information poses a significant challenge.
Over time, sidewalks and curb ramps deteriorate due to environmental stress and accessibility standards have driven the need for further improvements. Understanding where sidewalks are present, and what condition these assets are in, helps communities maximize scarce maintenance resources. It also provides a visual representation of the pedestrian network that can be used to identify non-compliant areas, prioritize repairs, and communicate accessible routes.
