Description

Electric utilities have been using fiber optic networks on their Rights of Way for decades to support communication needs. However, the Electrical grid of today and the future requires a more sophisticated and flexible communication network that can go deeper into the grid and be deployed on Transmission infrastructure and increasingly Distribution and Underground infrastructure.

To address this need, the fiber optic solution has continued to evolve, with an emphasis on sustainability, accessibility, flexibility, and expandability. Advancements in fiber technology, cable design, connectivity options, and splicing and testing have enabled higher fiber counts to be supported, allowing for more sophisticated use cases.

In this presentation, we will explore the key advancements in the fiber optic toolbox for Electrical Utilities, highlighting the latest developments in fiber technology, cable design, connectivity options, and splicing and testing. By the end of the presentation, attendees will have a better understanding of the current state of the fiber optic toolbox and how it can support their communication needs in the Electrical grid.
