Why goat’s milk with taurine is important to your pets
By Basel “Vasili” Nassar
Many years ago, I started a Greek Yogurt company for people. I did it not only because I had an entrepreneurial spirit and am from Greek heritage, but because I actually had a need for it. I had digestive issues and needed probiotics to help me feel like myself.
Fast forward to three years ago, when I welcomed a new member to my family. Kelby was a Rhodesian Ridgeback (Lion Hunter) who decided he wanted to run the household. The way he walked, played and snacked was just like a boss! He loved getting his way and we loved giving him what he wanted.
There was just one problem.
Kelby was an extremely picky eater. He hated food after food that we put in front of his face. We tried everything, from kibble to wet food to back to kibble. Finally, I decided I wanted to take his food issues into my own hands. I thought, I know Greek Yogurt, how would he react to eating that?
A year later after months of research and development, the Boss Dog brand of specialty pet foods finally became a reality. But would Kelby like our signature Raw Goat Milk with DHA and taurine? Kelby slurped down the milk in less than 30 seconds. Needless to say we were thrilled.
A few months later we added Frankie the cat to the family and Boss Dog became a product for felines too. (Yes, cat lovers…Boss Cat is coming!)
What does goat’s milk do for dogs and cats?
Boss Dog’s Raw Goat Milk is a digestive aid that helps pets get their daily need for moisture. Both dogs and cats are made up of about 65 percent water and unlike humans, are designed to get the majority of their water from the food they eat. We all know some pets, especially cats, don’t drink as much as they should.
But you may be thinking, can my pet drink a dairy product?
Many dogs and cats are lactose intolerant because their bodies produce little to no lactase, the enzyme required to digest lactose. In typical milk products, the heat during the manufacturing process destroys the lactase. This makes it difficult or even impossible for your pet to digest regular dairy products, unless the body produces enough lactase on its own. What's more, the undigested sugars left behind in the digestive tract can cause all sorts of gut problems. For these reasons, there’s a common misconception that dogs and cats are allergic or intolerant of all dairy.
When it comes to Boss Dog’s Raw Goat Milk, it’s a different story. Our goat milk is unpasteurized, with lots of lactase. This means pets who are lactose intolerant will be able to digest it, and as a result, be able to experience its many nutritional benefits.
What’s goat milk good for?
Goat’s milk has a ton of properties that can potentially solve a ton of common health issues related to: allergies, cancer, picky dogs and cats, kidney stones, diabetes, diarrhea/GI issues, arthritis.
Our Raw Goat Milk is also infused with more than 5,000,000 probiotics per cup, prebiotics, protein, antioxidants and vitamins and minerals in their natural form. The addition of the Omega 3 fatty acid DHA adds in benefits for brain health as well.
But one ingredient makes our product really stand out from our competition: the addition of taurine.
Why taurine is necessary for some dogs and all cats
Boss Dog’s Raw Goat Milk is fortified with taurine. Taurine is substance like an amino acid that is a required building block of protein. Taurine for cats is critical because felines can’t make this amino acid on their own.Dogs naturally make taurine for themselves, but studies have shown some dogs are deficient in making it and need supplements. In fact, some think the deficiency can be based on breed. American cocker spaniels and giant breeds like Newfoundlands often can’t make enough taurine for their systems.
Boss Dog is about healthy and happy pets
We know Boss Dog’s Raw Goat Milk has everything your cat or dog needs for a healthy digestive system. It’s just one of many products designed to support a raw diet or as a way to incorporate some raw components into your pet’s non-raw diet. While I started the brand with Kelby in mind, our treats and supplements have taken off and I realized I need to spread my success in dealing with his dietary challenges. Today my business is designed for you and your VIP… your very important pet who we want to keep as healthy and happy as possible.
