  Chicago, IL – Shameless Pets creates delicious treats for cats and dogs out of ingredients that would have otherwise been wasted - also known as upcycling. From a farmer’s leftover pumpkin after Halloween, apple pulp from a cider press, or ugly sweet potatoes that don’t make it onto the grocery shelves, Shameless Pets is able to turn these nutritional ingredients into tasty treats.

  Founder and CEO, James Bellow says, “Our story began when I was working as a corporate buyer at Target. I witnessed first-hand the vast amount of food that would go unused in stores every week. I wondered how big of an issue this food waste was and couldn’t believe what I found out – in the US alone, over 63 million tons of food gets tossed out every year. If that wasn’t crazy enough, global food wase accounts for 8% of greenhouse gas emissions! I knew I needed to do something about this, and so Shameless Pets was born.”

  Shameless Pets prioritizes working with North American suppliers to find creative, sustainable solutions to transform foods that would otherwise go to waste. According to several sources, preventing food waste is the single greatest solution to fighting climate change.

  Recently, Shameless Pets announced their certification by The Upcycled Certified Program, the world’s first third party certification program for upcycled food ingredients and products.

  Although upcycling foods is central to Shameless Pets’ mission, the company takes a holistic approach to sustainability, with all packaging made with 25% of post-consumer recyclable (PCR) plastic, and 80% of product line made with solar-energy.

  During dinner one night, after James’ dog, Mina, had been begging for their leftovers,

  he had the “lightbulb” moment: he could rescue unused ingredients and turn them

  into healthy dog treats that Mina and her pals would love to devour. There was just

  one problem - James had no clue how to make dog treats! Serendipitously, he met Alex

  at a startup event who also shared a passion for the environment, was a dog lover

  AND a food scientist. Alex whipped up four tasty treat flavors that were all natural,
