• New Report Identifies Growing Challenges for Older Americans (Oct 05, 2021)

  • Even prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, U.S. seniors were facing increased mental health challenges including increased drug deaths, suicide and frequent mental distress, according to a new report released today by America’s Health Rankings.

  • America’s Health Rankings Senior Report, now in its ninth year, provides a portrait of the health and well-being of older adults in the United States, capturing trends, successes and opportunities for health improvement. Using an updated model that emphasizes the impact that social, economic and environmental factors have on overall health, this year’s Senior Report highlights 49 measures of population health from 22 unique data sources that are used to highlight current and emerging issues affecting seniors.

  Widespread health disparities persisted across racial, ethnic, gender, geographic and educational lines before the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the United Health Foundation’s inaugural America’s Health Rankings Health Disparities Report. The breadth, depth and persistence of disparities, across multiple factors, is indicative of the work ahead to achieve more equitable health outcomes.

• United Health Foundation Releases America’s Health Rankings 2020 Annual Report (Oct 18, 2021)

  America’s Health Rankings 2020 Annual Report showcases meaningful progress on key health markers. They include pre-pandemic improvements in the prevalence of multiple chronic conditions, rates of Americans receiving recommended vaccinations and the supply of mental health care providers. The report also identifies challenges, such as the growing number of Americans facing obesity and frequent mental distress. This year’s report includes data that predates the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and does not assign overall state rankings.
