Ph.D. in Public Health

UC Irvine Public Health welcomes applications to our new research training doctorate degree, the Ph.D. in Public Health with concentrations in Global Health and Disease Prevention.

Our curriculum is designed to prepare students to formulate hypotheses, design and conduct population studies, and evaluate research findings in the context of risk factors, vulnerable populations, and disease outcomes. Doctoral students in our program will acquire the research skills necessary to make discoveries that advance understanding of the determinants of health and strategies to prevent disease.

Ph.D. and M.S. in Epidemiology

As a graduate student in the Department of Epidemiology, you will learn the fundamental principles and methods used to study the distribution and determinants of disease in human populations.

Our research expertise includes diabetes, obesity and other metabolic diseases, cardiovascular disease, cancer, aging and cognition, as well as the environmental, social, dietary and genetic determinants of health and health disparities.

Our MS degree program offers a sound foundation in epidemiologic methods, biostatistics, and allows flexibility in selecting elective courses to meet the needs and interests of each student.

Our PhD degree program offers a sound foundation in epidemiologic and biostatistics methods, derived from both coursework and practical experience.

Ph.D. and M.S. in Environmental Health Sciences

This degree provides training in Environmental Health Sciences, culminating with a Ph.D. degree in one of two tracks, Environmental Toxicology and Exposure Sciences and Environmental Epidemiology, or the M.S. degree.

The Environmental Health Sciences program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary and appropriate to teach and/or conduct basic and applied research programs in inhalation/pulmonary toxicology, biochemical neurotoxicology, reproductive and developmental toxicology, exposure modeling, exposure assessment, chemical pathology, toxicokinetics, radiation toxicology, molecular carcinogenesis, environmental epidemiology, and risk assessment.

Master of Public Health (MPH)

The Master of Public Health is a professional, interdisciplinary program that focuses on developing students who excel in using their knowledge of the core competencies to address the most pressing public health issues in today's culturally diverse communities. Students enrolling in the program choose one of four emphases: Biostatistics, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, or Sociocultural Diversity and Health.

B.S. in Public Health Sciences and B.A. in Public Health Policy

The B.S. in Public Health Sciences and the B.A. in Public Health Policy degree programs train students in multidisciplinary approaches to public health practice and research. The degrees explore both quantitative and qualitative aspects of public health at all levels of analysis.
