Join the health care revolution at the UTHealth School of Biomedical Informatics (SBMI) [http://go.uth.edu/APHA-SBMI] and earn your graduate certificate, Master of Science degree, PhD in Biomedical Informatics, or Doctorate in Health Informatics. With both online and in-person options, our programs are flexible, providing you exciting career opportunities at an extraordinary value. Students can select one of three concentrations for their studies:

The Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Concentration focuses on AI and data-driven solutions for improving patient care, disease prevention, and biomedical discovery.

The Clinical and Health Informatics Concentration focuses on the optimal use of information through technology to improve health care, individual and population health, and biomedical and clinical research.

The University of Texas School of Biomedical Informatics at Houston, together with the University of Texas School of Public Health, offer two Dual Degree programs in Public Health Informatics: a Master of Science in Biomedical Informatics and a Master of Public Health (MS/MPH), and a Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Informatics and a Master of Public Health (PhD/MPH) [http://go.uth.edu/APHA-DualDegree]. The programs provide an avenue for students to concurrently enroll in both degree programs so that duplication in course content is minimized, academic interaction is made more efficient, and the time and costs are reduced.

The Public Health Informatics dual-degree program will prepare students to integrate public health informatics knowledge and skills in their professional lives as practitioners and researchers. Students will understand core public health disciplines such as health promotion, epidemiology, policy, and environmental health sciences as well as gain understanding and skills in biomedical informatics and developing informatics solutions.  The dual degree program shares course credits between the two degrees, allowing full-time students to obtain both degrees in a little as three years.

 Press Releases

  • The health care industry has been turned upside down by the strain of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, technological advancement did not stop during the pandemic – a large part of it received a boost because of the pandemic. Over the past two years, Artificial Intelligence applications have been developed and utilized at a much higher speed and at a much larger scale to help improve and transform how medical care is provided.

At the UTHealth School of Biomedical Informatics (SBMI), we educate students on how to collect, process, and convert data—ranging from molecules to populations—into actionable information, knowledge, and intelligence. We take pride in being the only stand-alone informatics program in the nation dedicated to educating current and future leaders, innovators, and problem solvers across Texas, the nation, and the world.

Join the health care revolution at SBMI and earn one of six graduate certificates, a Master of Science degree, a PhD in Biomedical Informatics, or be one of the first to earn a Doctorate in Health Informatics from the only school in the nation to offer the advanced, practice degree. We also offer dual degree MD/MS programs with McGovern Medical School at UTHealth and with UTRGV Medical School and a MS/MPH with UT School of Public Health. With both online and in-person options, our programs are flexible, providing you exciting career opportunities at an extraordinary value.
