About us -

Virginia Tech's Public Health Program in the Department of Population Health Sciences is administered by the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in partnership with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health.

Virginia Tech is a public land-grant institution, the commonwealth’s most comprehensive university and a leading research institution. The program is located on Virginia Tech's Blacksburg, VA campus, which is nestled between mountain ranges that provide access to an abundance of outdoor amenities and within a day’s drive to major cities up and down the east coast.

The program's mission is to protect, improve, and promote population health in Southwest and Southside Virginia, the Commonwealth, Central Appalachia, the Nation and the world by training future public health leaders through learning, discovery, and engagement in public health. The program emphasizes a One Health approach to address local and global public health concerns. The One Health concept recognizes that the health of people is connected to the health of animals and the environment. Recognition of the dynamic interdependence of human, animal, and environmental health promotes interdisciplinary collaboration among medical, veterinary, public health, and other professionals. The program is also committed to addressing public health challenges and opportunities facing Central Appalachia and other areas in Southwest and Southside Virginia as well as other rural areas in Virginia, the nation, and beyond.

Academic Programs -

The program offers both undergraduate and graduate programs in public health. At the undergraduate level, the program offers the Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) degree and the undergraduate minor in public health. At the graduate level, the program offers the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with concentrations in infectious disease and public health education, completed as a standalone degree program or in combination with another degree program, including the DVM, MD, and with a PhD or other Master's program from across Virginia Tech, an accelerated undergraduate to MPH degree program for Virginia Tech students, and the online or in person Graduate Certificate in Public Health.
