Having celebrated our 40th anniversary in 2020-2021, the San Diego State University School of Public Health (SPH) continues its mission to develop public health leaders, advance knowledge, and transform population health locally and globally through education, research, collaboration, and service to promote health equity for all.
We are ranked 31st in the nation, CEPH accredited, and our Health Management and Policy program is also accredited by CAHME. We are proud to be part of a Hispanic-Serving Institution with expertise in border health, infectious diseases, cancer, aging, environmental health and behavior change.
We offer a BS in Public Health; MPH with concentrations in Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Health Management and Policy, and Health Promotion and Behavioral Science; MS concentrations in Environmental Health Sciences, Epidemiology; concurrent MPH/MSW, Health Management and Policy; concurrent MPH/MA Latin American Studies, concentrations in Environmental Health, Epidemiology, and Health Promotion and Behavioral Science; PhD concentrations in Epidemiology, Global Health, and Health Behavior. We also offer a fully online MPH, geared toward working professionals, with concentrations in Health Promotion and Behavioral Science, and Epidemiology.
Opportunities for education extend beyond the formal classroom through interactions with faculty on research projects and opportunities to become actively engaged in local and regional community service activities.
The SPH-affiliated research centers and institutes, which include the Center for Behavioral and Community Health, Institute for Behavior and Community Health, Institute for Public Health, and Center for Research on Sexuality and Sexual Health, conduct clinical and community-based health research, and provide support for the training and education of public health students and other health professionals.
SPH faculty members bring in millions of research dollars each year and are conducting research all over the world! In addition to the US, our faculty conduct research in Brazil, Canada, Ecuador, Kenya, Mexico, Peru, South Africa, and Uganda. Information on faculty research can be found on our website.
