Welcome Spartan friends and family!

MSU’s public health is the first academic department to be co-developed and co-governed in partnership with the communities it serves. Based at the College of Human Medicine's Flint campus, the department focuses on population health. The department’s research, teaching, and outreach are intervention and action-focused and involve direct health policy advocacy. Since 2014, $186 million in external funding has been earmarked for research and intervention in community-partnered prioritized activities to reduce health and economic disparities. Community partners help fuel the efforts with resources and a shared commitment to improving lives. Public health issues of high importance identified by the Flint community have an emphasis on promoting health equity and addressing the social determinants of health in areas that include: • Mental health • Substance use • Healthy behaviors including screening and prevention • Chronic disease • Violence and safety • The built environment • Maternal-child health • Environmental justice At Michigan State University, we offer three online public health concentrations that can be customized to your public health interests: Generalist, Rural Public, and Public Health Data Management and Analytics. It also offers a Graduate Certificate in the core disciplines of public health. Here’s how we do it: • 100% online curriculum; work while pursuing your degree • Competitive in-state tuition for all students • No GRE or any other graduate or professional school test scores for admission • Asynchronous learning to accommodate busy lifestyles • Personalized mentoring from application through graduation • Complimentary student membership to the American Public Health Association
