  • PhD and MS Positions in Geophysics at CERI

The center of Earthquake Research and Information (CERI) invites highly motivated applications for our graduate programs leading to PhD and MS degrees in Geophysics. All students receive 12-month Research Assistantship support until timely completion of the degree. We offer a broad spectrum of courses and operate in a collegial, supportive environment.

CERI is one of five Centers of Excellence at the University of Memphis. As an M.S. or Ph.D. candidate, you'll be a part of a vibrant research environment where projects are being conducted at a global scale. We encourage collaborative research to help solve key problems in earth sciences. Possible research topics include, but are not limited to, seismology, seismic hazard analysis, earthquake physics, seismotectonics, geodesy, geodynamics, and computational tectonic modeling.  We offer on-site data collection from two large seismic networks and a GPS network in the central U.S. and experience with rapid instrument deployment following felt earthquakes in the region. Interaction and collaboration with Earth Sciences and Civil Engineering faculty is encouraged. For more information, please visit our graduate program brochure at https://sway.office.com/8JBnzeNFBkgzhszy?ref=Link and the CERI website https://memphis.edu.ceri/.

Applications are reviewed starting January 15, 2021 for fall 2021 admission.  Applications are made through the University of Memphis Graduate School (https://www.memphis.edu/graduateadmissions/future/apply_grad.php).  Additional admission guidance is provided on our website (https://www.memphis.edu/ceri/study/admission.php) and by contacting Michelle Smith (mesmith@memphis.edu) and Christine Powell (capowell@memphis.edu).
