Launched in March 2011, GIWS has developed one of the strongest interdisciplinary water research communities in the world. GIWS manages the individual research programs of more than 94 faculty from 21 academic units and leads the world's largest university-based freshwater research program in the world - Global Water Futures. GIWS is devoted to global water security through training the advancement of science (physical and social).
