 Press Releases

  • M Bar C Construction is honored to be named Solar Power World’s 2021 Installation Leader in Solar.

    In January 2021, Solar Power World announced the nominees for the various available Leadership in Solar categories. With category winners dependent on the input of their industry peers, survey participants voted for which company best exemplified solar leadership in each area of expertise. The Solar Power World Leadership in Solar polls were open for participant voting throughout the 2021 year, with the category winners announced this December.

    M Bar C Construction is proud to be voted 2021 Installation Leader in Solar. Throughout the over four-decade history of M Bar C Construction, we have been honored to receive numerous industry-recognized awards. Still, this award feels different because it’s awarded as a direct reflection of the opinion and experience of our fellow peers, community, and industry partners selecting M Bar C Construction as the Installation Leader in Solar.

    “Installing carports is what we do. Carports are what we’ve always done, and we’ve mastered it, and we will continue to innovate and improve processes. This award is a testament to us not just saying we are the best, but the industry and those in it acknowledging that we are the best.”Neil Bradley, Director of Strategic Accounts

    Time-Tested Expert Installation Leadership

    In 1998, M Bar C Construction recognized the expanding need for quality structures, in partnership with solar developers to maximize solar energy benefits while expanding renewable energy options. Jason Ianni, M Bar C Construction CEO and President recalled the organization’s first solar carport installation;

    “A client shared with us that in Europe, people were installing solar atop carports, and he wanted us to help him do it here. Although at the time this wasn’t occurring in the United States, we heard the client’s request and said ‘yes.’ This was a new design for us, so we gathered some of M Bar C’s key players and worked on a plan that would meet the client’s requests. Together we created a solution, and for the first time, we installed solar on top of a carport.” This innovative approach resulted in one of the nation’s first solar carports.

    In 2020, M Bar C Construction also expanded its geographical footprint by opening our East Coast branch with a dedicated East Coast support team. Neil Bradley explained,

    “Solar carports are seen everywhere on the West Coast. But our expertise isn’t limited to the West Coast. As the demand for innovative solar installations has grown throughout the East Coast, we’ve recognized the need for our expertise, and we are proud to expand our support to East Coast partners.”

    Since the COVID-19 pandemic, all industries have experienced various challenges and setbacks. For M Bar C Construction and fellow installation companies, record-breaking steel price spikes, shipping delays, and overall pandemic management have provided us with a new set of challenges. Despite these industry-wide hurdles, M Bar C team members prevailed as they held fast to M Bar C values. Kelsey Webster, Marketing Manager, shared,

    “This award is especially significant when you consider the volatility of the last two years. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our world and our industry. Despite these challenges, our peers selected us as their 2021 Installation Leader in Solar. This award is a direct reflection of the expertise and legacy of M Bar C Construction and its team members.”

    A Legacy Continued

    Throughout its four-decades plus of installation experience, M Bar C Construction has continued to rise to the challenge, with expanded products and services such as DSA Approved canopiescarport & shade repair support, ground mount installations, and fabric shade offerings. Whether M Bar C Construction is embracing inventive concepts, developing new products, or expanding our expertise to new regions, we are eager to further support the industry we proudly serve as their 2021 Installation Leader in Solar.

  • Pulse Millenia Apartments installed a 287 kW Solar. Photovoltaic (PV) Carport system on their community parking garage.

    In 2016, Pulse Millenia Apartments became a recognized housing solution for the rapidly growing community of Chula Vista, California. Offering 1, 2, and 3 bedroom options, Pulse Millenia Apartments provides amenity-packed living options for Southern San Diego County Residents.

    Pulse Millenia Apartments, a Fairfield Residential community, operates within the Living Green program. This Fairfield Residential Living Green Program provides residents with energy-efficient and sustainability-focused living opportunities within communities such as Pulse Millenia.

    M Bar C Construction designed and installed the 287 kW Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Carport system atop the community parking garage. Due to the facilities’ design and layout, Pulse Millenia developers sought out M Bar C’s long-standing expertise in installing the system due to the precise coordination required for the installation. With 40,000 pounds of steel required for the carport installation, M Bar C crews intricately navigated structure materials on top of a parking structure per the limited space between the two apartment buildings.

    Dersch Design & Engineering partnered with M Bar C Construction in the lighting systems within the solar carport installation, ensuring that all installed lighting systems were Title 24 compliant.

    The Pulse Millenia carport installation was designed to produce 437,402 kWh annually. The solar production was split between the two buildings so both buildings could benefit from energy savings.

    This project took advantage of California Energy Commission’s New Solar Homes Partnership (NSHP) program. The NSHP provides financial incentives, encouraging new energy-efficient solar homes that save homeowners money on their electric bills and protect the environment.

    In 2016, Pulse Millenia Apartments was presented with the Ribbons & Shovel Award, recognizing the apartment complex as an outstanding project, crediting the facility with helping improve and enhance the appearance and appeal of Chula Vista, CA.

  • What was once an unnamed solar carport project is now the largest installed solar carport project on the West Coast.

    Over two and a half years ago Neil Bradley, Director of Strategic Accounts was contacted regarding a massive solar carport project opportunity in the Bay Area. “There was no address provided, just a map of a parking lot with layouts. The project was huge. “. Although the details of the project were vague, the size of the project would mean that this solar carport structure would prove to be one of the largest in the nation.

    As promised, our team immediately jumped into estimating and bidding on this large and unnamed project. Neil explained; “Originally, one of our Estimators, Spencer Falkner only referred to the unnamed project as ‘Neil’s Big Job.’” Throughout the active estimating stages, there was still no address to this exciting new project.

    “One day, a group of us were in the car discussing the size and little-known details of this mysterious project and it hit us-it’s Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Sure, enough the next day we found the parking lot for Six Flags Discovery Kingdom on Google Maps and discovered it was an exact match to the unlabeled layouts we were provided.” Neil continued, “We couldn’t believe it; we were bidding solar carports for Six Flags Discovery Kingdom.”

    The Discovery Kingdom Six Flags solar carport project was commissioned by JLL, an innovative property management company that without hesitation recognized the benefit that solar carports would serve the northern Californian theme park. JLL partnered with the powerhouse solar financing and planning company, SPower in bringing the project to fruition. Recognizing the flawless project development and management abilities that Borrego Solar displays in every project they produce, SPower placed them at the head of this project.

    With over four decades of solar carport design and installation, M Bar C Construction was the obvious choice for the installation of this record-breaking solar carport. Collaborating with a southern Californian neighbor and longtime electrical partners; Helix Electric in providing project electrical requirements felt like second nature and created the most efficient installation process possible.

    The solar carports that span the vast expanse of parking at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom are now filled with 7.5 megawatts of solar carports. These carports represent 11.9 million kilowatt-hours of energy annually amount of that will directly feed Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. This record-breaking project makes Six Flags Discovery Kingdom the first solar-powered theme park on the west coast.

    Although the timeline of this project landed specifically within our busy summer season, which is often dominated by school DSA carport projects, our team rose up and answered the call to every project demand. This solar carport project required a team of only 6-15 M Bar C crew members and four and a half months to install one of the largest solar carports in the nation. Kelsey Webster, Marketing Coordinator added;

    “It was a really exciting project for our team, a common theme for M Bar C is that we love breaking records and we thrive in partnerships with companies that are as passionate about these projects as we are. The size of this project immediately presented us with a record to break and a new bar to set, that’s when our team really shows up and truly shines”.

    Want to see the finished product and learn more about the story behind it? Our friends and project champions at Borrego Solar and Six Flags created a clip that explains just what a difference this carport structure is making, check it out here.
