U.S. Navy
The Navy’s mission is to maintain, train, and equip combat-ready forces capable of winning wars, deterring aggression, and maintaining freedom of the seas. The Gulf of Alaska provides invaluable training space needed to realistically train U.S. service members to protect and defend the United States and its allies. Northern Edge exercises are Alaska’s largest joint (multi-service) training exercises and occur every other year. During this exercise, the Navy takes actions to avoid or minimize impacts on marine mammals, fishes, marine birds, and important habitat. The Navy is also a world leader in marine species research and monitoring efforts.
