Cook Inlet Regional Citizens Advisory Council
Cook Inlet Regional Citizens Advisory Council: Promoting environmentally safe marine transportation and oil facility operations for Cook Inlet.
CIRCAC was created under the Oil Pollution Act of 1990. The Council is the formal mechanism for public participation in the oversight of Cook Inlet’s oil industry. Our staff and public committees work to advance long-term environmental research projects, comment on industry contingency plans, and provide information for the public. A principal objective has been to understand what natural resources are at risk from oil industry operations, what and where the greatest risks are, and how we can prevent and mitigate those risks.
CIRCAC represents a diverse group of regional stakeholders, including Alaska Native, Environmental, Aquaculture, Commercial Fishing, Recreation, and Tourism interests in addition to the municipalities in Cook Inlet, from Anchorage to Kodiak. It is through the Council that citizens represented by these groups engage with the industry and its regulators to ensure safe operations, production, exploration and transportation of crude oil in Cook Inlet.
