History & Background
Sonberk vineyards have entered viticultural history in the 13th century since when they have gained the reputation of giving excellent wines - demanded by the Jagellon dynasty of Czech kings in Prague and by the Habsburg court of Maria Theresia in Vienna later on.
It is the land that stands first behind the success of the Sonberk vineyard; its terroir is defined by the altitude of 210–260 meters and by the South to Southwest exposition. The loess soil is rich of calcium, potassium, and minerals.
Nowadays & International Achievements
The modern history of Sonberk – The best Czech winery 2013 and 2020 - starts in 2003 by funding a new winery with its Winehouse nestled within 45 hectares of vineyards. Today Sonberk wines are well known all over the Czech Republic and precious rewards arrive from abroad, too - such as DECANTER WORLD WINE AWARDS, VINALIES PARIS, MUNDUS VINI, TERRAVINO ISRAEL and international concourses in SAN FRANCISCO, QUEBEC, VIENNA, STRASBOURG and from MONDIAL BRUSSEL, 1000 Vins du Monde. Sonberk also attracts the attention of domestic and international press – The New York Times, Financial Times and Der Sonntag to name the recent coverage.
