Our domain is built around the special terroir of two 40 years old vineyards, Tegăneanu and Zorilor, in the well-known Romanian wine region of Dealu Mare, close to the city of Buzău. Clay, gravel, and limestone soils shape the complex and intense personality of the wines we produce with great care.
We have begun a long process of restoration and conservation of our 40 years old vines as we consider it our responsibility to protect them for generations to come. In parallel, we have also planted new grapes from both local and international varieties.
We understand that in order to get the best out of our terroir, tradition must go hand in hand with technology.
The wines from Domeniile Prince Matei are born and grown from the fine balance between nature, man, and technology.
Since 1998, our flagship wine, Prince Matei Rezerva has proven it is one of the few Romanian super-premium red wines. It is produced from our best selection of merlot grapes and is renowned for its excellent aging potential, developing in time both complexity and finesse.
