Austal USA is an advanced shipbuilder in Mobile, Ala. with service centers in San Diego and Singapore. The company’s modern ship manufacturing facility is designed to maximize efficiency through the use of moving assembly lines for module construction and adherence to lean manufacturing principles. Austal USA joined the U.S. defense market in 2004 and quickly rose to become the fifth largest shipbuilder in the U.S. Today, Austal USA supports both steel and aluminum ship construction as well as services and support worldwide. The company is under contract with the Navy to build the Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ship, the Expeditionary Fast Transport, and the Navajo-class Towing, Salvage and  Rescue ships. Earning safety excellence awards the last six consecutive years, Austal USA continues to be one of the safest shipyards in America.

Austal USA has expanded the company's state-of-the-art facility in Mobile, Ala. to include a 15-acre ship repair operation and 20,000 ton Panamax-class dry dock on the west bank of the Mobile River, as well as advanced infrastructure, equipment, vehicles and software that is reducing post-delivery cost and dwell time to our customers. The new repair facility offers 100,000 square feet (9,290 m2) of covered fabrication with an outside fabrication area of 300,000 square feet (27,871 m2), and moorage of vessels up to 1,000 feet (304.8 m) long.

Services provided by Austal's Mobile ship repair operation range from conversions and upgrades to advanced ship repair.  The machine shop/fabrication areas are equipped with overhead cranes, a lathe, and a CNC plasma cutter.  Other technical services include detail design capability, 3D modeling, field engineering support, and dimensional accuracy control.
