North River Boats, a custom aluminum boatbuilder, is adding a new 35’ RAIV to the Safe/Sea fleet.

Safe/Sea is the leading provider of on-the-water boat towing services and marine salvage services for recreational boaters in Rhode Island and has been serving the local Rhode Island boating community since 1985. Several thousand boaters belong to Safe/Sea boat towing service plans and the company is the exclusive boat towing service provider for BoatUS members in Rhode Island as well.

“We’ve been building boats for Safe/Sea’s fleet for 20 years,” describes Jordan Allen, manager of Commercial and Government Sales at North River, “and our longstanding relationship with them is why we have the penetration we have into this sector of the market.”

According to Allen, in addition to the latest 35’ RAIV, Safe/Sea’s fleet currently includes three 35’ boats, one 31’ boat and a 28’ boat, all built by North River.

The 35’ RAIV is powered by twin Yanmar 440 hp internal diesel engines, with ZF Marine transmissions and Hamilton Jet HJ274 propulsion systems. Inside the cabin are AllSalt Shoxs X8 with 3700 seat at the helm and a full Raymarine electronics package, including FLIR. Trim is provided by Humphrees Interceptor system.

The new North River Freedom is built out at 21 feet long with an overall beam of 8 feet 6 inches in order to be DOT compliant (towable) in all 50 states. The design incorporates a hull form that will have a shallow draft, so that fire and rescue crews can get close to shore to utilize the powered, drop-down bow door to load or unload patients, rescue victims, or passengers.

The Freedom has a custom aluminum center console and T-Top and is powered by a 2.8-liter, Yamaha F200 four-stroke outboard, and will have a removable, Darley (380-gpm) 2BE 21H fire pump, coupled to a Task Force Tips 2 1/2-inch manually operated monitor at the bow for fire suppression capabilities. This boat also has a full electronics package that includes a Motorola Agency radio, Garmin GPSMAP 8610 multifunction color display with structure scan transducer, Garmin VHF 115 radio with external speaker, Whelen Mini Liberty LED light bar and a Whelen LE and Siren package.

“North River has received a considerable number of requests for a more budget friendly and trailerable fire vessel over the past few years,” said North River’s Government and Commercial Sales Manager Jordan Allen. “North River has listened to our customers and developed this extremely tough and compact platform that can be launched from very crude boat ramps and operated in small, shallow bodies of water.”

North River Boats recently delivered “Hooked Up,” the latest in the company’s Offshore Voyager line of luxury fishing yachts.

“This is the most beautiful boat we’ve built to date,” explains Mike Blocher, Director of Sales, “and in keeping with North River’s reputation for building one of the safest and most stable recreational fishing vessels in the Pacific Northwest, it’s also an incredible fishing platform.”

The 37’ long, 10.5’ beam Offshore Voyager is powered by twin Yamaha 245s and a 50 hp kicker, controlled by Yamaha Helm Master controls, including an aft port helm for the kicker, and an aft starboard helm for the mains. Fishing and navigation electronics are based on a full Garmin suite, with a 16” screen at both the main and the aft helm. Further supporting the vessel’s role as a fishing platform the back deck includes ample tackle storage and fish holds as well as a high capacity ice maker.

More than with previous deliveries, “Hooked Up” elegantly blends the muscular ruggedness of its “tested in Alaskan fisheries” offshore hull and upper deck designs with the comfort and warmth most often associated with the cabin interiors of luxury cruising yachts.
