  • A tugger winch is made to perform frequent assistance work on any type of vessel. Tugger winches can be used for multifunctional work on tugboats and other work boats and are used for a wide range of tasks. A DMC tugger winch excels in its simplicity. Despite their simple, robust design and heavy-duty construction, DMC tugger winches function as reliable winches. The performance of our tugger winches is assured because we select only the highest quality gearboxes. DMC tugger winches set themselves apart by their low-maintenance design and long service life.

    Available models

Type of cable: Synthetic wires and steel cable
Pulling force: 3, 5, 10, 15 tonnes (higher forces are available on request)
Drum configuration: Single, smooth or grooved
    Drive: Hydraulic or electric

    Advantages

    • Robust design with durable materials. The design of our tugger winches is simple but effective as well as low in maintenance. We are able to achieve this by limiting the number of parts, making critical parts robust, using stainless steel and opting for high-quality rotating parts. In addition, we minimise the number of rotating points, levers and lubrication points.
    • Quiet, compact transmission. Tugger winches from DMC are equipped with high-quality gearboxes.
    • Superior anti-rust protection. Our tugger winches are fully coated with a high-quality, 3-layer paint system. The base layer is an extremely zinc-rich primer which has a zinc content of more than 90%. This ensures that our robust winches are optimally protected against corrosion, even under the most extreme conditions.
    • Easy alignment and attachment. All DMC tugger winches are designed to be deck-mounted with only four foundation points. This standardised print ensures easy alignment and attachment of a DMC tugger winch to the deck. It also results in as few obstacles as possible on deck, where towing wires can become snagged.

  • An anchor and mooring winch is applied to cargo and container ships so that they can moor safely at the quay and remain moored at their berth. These winches ensure the safety of the crew and the cargo of a ship. Inland tankers are also often equipped with this type of winch. DMC anchor and mooring winches comply with all Bureau Veritas class requirements. Depending on the wishes of the customer, it is possible to obtain certification in accordance with ATEX or OCIMF guidelines. Our range of anchor and mooring winches is designed for intensive use. For example, when waiting offshore in stormy weather for the next tow. Where regular anchor winches can only handle short-term peak loads, DMC anchor and mooring winches have the ability to actually pull and hold the forces at the nominal motor torque. Multiple configurations are possible as we build our winches with standardised modular solutions. In addition, customisation is always an option.

  • Asymmetric Rudder Technology (ART™) is a unique leading edge that is adapted to the angles of the propeller to create smooth water inflow. This technology is developed to reduce resistance and cavitation. The profile of this Energy Saving Device is specifically modified to counter the rotation effects of the propeller slipstream. It is an optional feature that can be applied to all Van der Velden® rudders.

ART™ is available in two versions: the S- or Z-shape. The S-shape has a more detailed design, it therefore reduces the risk of cavitation even more than the Z-shape. Nevertheless, the cavitation risk is significantly reduced with both versions, in comparison to a conventional leading edge. Increased operational profile and extended product lifetime are the results when ART™ is applied to a rudder.

  • The Timon rudder is known for its excellent manoeuvring and course-keeping performance. This rudder has an open flap linkage mechanism and side bar flap system with a 90 degree angle. It has a wide range in size, which makes it the ideal rudder for larger vessels such offshore and container vessels.

    Optional Energy Saving Devices

    • Asymmetric Rudder Technology (ART™)
    • Rudder bulb

    Other optional features

    • Heel bearing support. This feature improves the performance of the rudder and is often applied to fishing vessels. It reduces the load in the neck bearing and it protects the propeller from fishing nets. With heel bearing support, a rudder can be designed with a slim profile. The distribution of rudder reaction forces in three points (rudder carrier, neck bearing and heel bearing), compared with the free hanging rudder, will increase the strength of the rudder, especially during trawler operations.
    • Rudder trunk extension. To extend the trunk into the rudder blade, the lower neck bearing is positioned as close as possible to the centre of the force that is acting on the rudder. This gives the opportunity to build large rudders. With trunk extension the stresses, from bending, in the rudder trunk and stock are reduced. Also, the reaction forces in the neck and carrier bearing are smaller.

  • The Commander™ Rotary Vane steering system is ideal for all sea-going vessels as well as superyachts and naval vessels. The high-end design consists of an integrated tiller and cylinder, which generates an equal high torque in all possible steering angles. It is safe in operation because of only one rotating part. Relatively low maintenance.

This system is available for steering angles up to 65 degrees. The wide torque range of the rotary vane gives greater flexibility in choosing the rudder system. The integrated tiller and cylinder are part of the actuator. The actuator of the rotary vane is designed to take the full vertical load of the rudder and rudder stock, making a separate rudder carrier rudder redundant.

  • Towing winches are often used on tugboats assisting container ships and other cargo ships in ports and port terminals. The pulling and braking force, in combination with the transmission, determine the application of this type of winch. DMC’s towing winches, driven by gearboxes, are unique in use. This solution developed in-house ensures that the speed of the winch is automatically adjusted to the required pulling force. The variable speed allows the winch to always run at the highest possible speed. This eliminates the need to manually choose between two or three-speed models.

    Available models

Type of cable: Synthetic towing wires (polypropylene, Dyneema®) or steel
Pulling force: Standard up to 35 tonnes, higher on request
Braking force: Standard up to 200 tonnes, higher on request
Drum configuration: Single, split or double
    Drive: Hydraulic and electric

    Options for gearbox-driven towing winches

    • Wire-spooling system
    • Mooring head on main shaft
    • Anchor chain lifter(s) on main shaft
    • Line force measurement during towing
    • Line length measurement

    Advantages

    • Hauling or veering at maximum speed. The DMC variable-speed drive is the most recent innovation in winch technology. This makes it possible to always haul or veer at the highest available line speed. The speed of the drive system automatically adjusts itself in relation to the required line force.
    • Robust design with durable materials. The design of our gearbox-driven towing winches is simple but effective as well as low in maintenance. We are able to achieve this by limiting the number of parts, making critical parts robust, using stainless steel and opting for high-quality rotating parts. In addition, the number of rotating points, levers and lubrication points are kept to a minimum.
    • Quiet, compact gearbox. Towing winches from DMC are equipped with high-quality drives. The gears have been calculated for service life and strength according to the ISO 6336 standard. The high quality of the alloy-steel toothing ensures very smooth and quiet running, which extends its service life.
    • Certainty through certification. All our winches are by default certified by Bureau Veritas. In addition to the verification of the specifications in advance, they are tested in our factories up to and in excess of the maximum pulling and brake-holding force, in the presence of a class surveyor. This provides our customers certainty in the winch performance and avoids loss of time during installation, commissioning and sea trials.
    • Critical parts – for which the market offers no suitable solution – are developed, tested and produced in-house by DMC. These include brake cylinders, clutch cylinders and rotary joints.
