MARIN (Maritime Research Institute Netherlands) is an independent and innovative service provider specializing in hydrodynamic assessments and investigations for  over 80 years. MARIN is headquartered in Wageningen, Netherlands with offices in Houston and Chesapeake in the USA (MARIN USA Inc.). We can do a range of studies with our software (CFD, frequency and time domain), model test facilities, ship bridge simulators and full scale measurement teams. We service various markets like Transport and Shipping (including inland shipping), Oil and Gas, Renewables, Defense, Passengers and Yachting.

 Products

  • Analysis of Wind Turbine Installation Vessels
A WTIV is a complex vessel: during its operations it transforms from a vessel to a platform and vice versa on a regular basis. MARIN can assist you to determine the operational performance of your WTIV from a hydrodynamic point of view....

  • Services for Wind Turbine Installation Vessels (WTIV):

    Hull & Propulsion optimization

    Vessel motions/ Crew comfort

    Jack-up leg impact load analysis

    DP station keeping accuracy analysis

    Operability analysis

Training of crews on full mission bridge simulator

Tools to support onboard daily operations

  • Improving Towboat and Inland ship designs
MARIN offers range of tools to improve your ship's fuel efficiency. Which tools we apply depends on what you need and expect. Interested? - Contact us!...

  • Services to improve inland ship and towboat design:

    - Statistical tools to estimate powering requirements

    - CFD studies, hull (bow and stern) optimization

    - Voyage Simulations to determine fuel consumption, ship route optimisation

    - Model tests

Which tool you apply for the optimisation of your ship, depends upon many factors. Employing statistics to find possibilities for improvement can be easily done at low costs. Bow optimisation by performing RAPID calculations only takes a few hours. As for the stern, you can decide how much detail you want to include. Significant improvements can already be obtained by optimising the bare hull with PARNASSOS or (with a duct) ReFRESCO, without having to include all appendages in every calculation.

  • Analysis for Wind Turbine Support vessels
The performance of WT support vessels (CTV, SOV) depends on sea-keeping characteristics of the vessel. MARIN can determine for you with in-house software and model testing....

  • Services for Wind Turbine Support Vessels:

    Hull & Propulsion optimization

    Vessel motions/ Crew comfort

    DP station keeping accuracy analysis

    Operability analysis

Training of crews on full mission bridge simulator

Tools to support onboard daily operations

    W2W gangway optimization

  • Operational studies on Ship Simulators
MARIN’s nautical centre operates various real-time simulators for research, consultancy and training of professional mariners. The simulators can be used separately or combined in the same scenario....

  • The facilities in Netherlands include:

    • Full Mission Bridge I: especially suitable to simulate large ocean-going vessels.
    • Full Mission Bridge II: a flexible facility, capable of simulating a wide range of vessels.
    • Four Compact Manoeuvring Simulators: smaller simulators to simulate all kind of tugs and smaller vessels.
    • Fast small ship simulator

The Houston bridge simulator facility consists of a main bridge with full console, two tug stations and an Instructor Operator Station.

The simulators are perfectly suited for complex research or training projects such as:

    • Harbours and open water/coastal navigation
    • Terminal design including ship channels
    • Offloading operations including approach and departure
    • Manoeuvres with: anchors, tugs, free floating FPSOs, formation of ships, floatover operations etc.
